1883.0. "New Usenet News Reader" by NAC::PLOUFF (Cider Season Has Begun) Fri Nov 18 1988 15:06

    I found this news reader -- quite nice for browsing Usenet mailings.

  NEW RELEASE - BTW: _ IS ANYONE USING THIS? PLEASE LET ME KNOW

BINKLY::USER:[TOOLS]USEDIR.EXE is a program for easing the pain of
reading USENET messages. It builds a directory of entries from
extracted mail messages, and then allows you to read ONLY THE ONES YOU
MARK. You can MARK and then read messages:

	* Manually
	* by common Subject
	* by common search string

You extract USENET mail messages out of MAIL into a file, (EXTRACT/ALL
is useful here) and then run this program. It prompts you for the
extracted filename(s), and then creates a pseudo-notes database, with
a "directory" of all the responses in the USENET mail message. You
then choose which "notes" you want to read using the advanced MARKing
mechanism. The keypad is based on VAXNOTES.

Advantages:

   Fast, easy, ergonomic.
   Will write individual entries to a file
   Will read in multiple files at a time
   Intelligently wraps all text to 80 char
   Will size to your screen size
   Refresh can be interrupted to speed to next note.

if this interests you, please try it, and please let me know what you
think.

Your feedback is welcome...

USEDIR V2.4 is now available at BINKLY::USER:[TOOLS]USEDIR.EXE

All reported screen handling bugs are fixed.

New features:

	The 'Write Topic to file' feature (kypd 9) now supports appending,
	and default filenames.

	Go to first and last page are implemented (gold 1 and gold 3)

	USEDIR marks notes that have been read. (2x MARK ALL clears the marks).

	Default filename for first input file.

I'm looking at support for NOTES extracts. If people could send me
examples of what the extracts look like (or perhaps is someone willing
to modify an extractor so that it is trivial to parse - e.g., no
ambiguity about where the first and each subsequent note start), I
might take a shot at it.

enjoy

btw: drop me mail if you use this - thanx

    Thought I would add that comp.sys,sources,binaries.amiga and
    comp.sys.amiga.tech are maintained in the conferences
    MSBIS::AMIGA_USENET and MSBIS::AMIGA_TECH, respectively.  These
    in combination with a tool like AVN or PAVN also give a nice way
    to read/refer to these specific newsgroups.
