1739.0. "XCLK on RGB port?" by WJG::GUINEAU (Not enough moving parts) Tue Oct 04 1988 10:39

While reading through "The Amiga System Programmers Guide" I ran across
a section on the Hardware stating that the RGB connector has an input
for an external clock (called XCLK I think).

They say you can increase the speed of the Amiga by supplying a faster
clock on this pin, (and another pin - XCLK_ENA (sp?) to enable the external
clock). Also they indicagte the fastest clock speed must be determined "by
experiment".

Is this the same issue as in another note on cranking up Amys Alpha Waves?

Probably. However, note that if you do put in a faster clock (I think
XCLK should be a substitute for the 14 MHz clock), there are two side
effects. As the clock speed rises, you are eating up timing margins in
the hardware, and at some point the machine will go flaky. It will also
become sensitive to changes in temperature and load on the power supply
(like number of disks running at once). Also, the video timing
will change (less flicker!) and at some point your monitor will
not sync up. Don't know which happens first.
