1482.0. "DMCS software" by HPSTEK::PELLETIER (Nothin's Shakin') Thu Jun 16 1988 20:45

Hi.

I am looking for software for a program called DMCS. Delux Music Construction
Set. Specifically, does anyone have any Pink Floyd for this program.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The only legal way to obtain more DMCS instruments is to buy Instant
Music, It's Only Rock 'n Roll and other EA music disks. I've collected
over 100 DMCS instruments this way.

NOT SO	!
Synthia is an instrument builder that works with DMCS. You should
know something about musical acoustics, harmonics, envelopes, and
    like that there.
I sent away for the ECT Samplerware Orchestra disk, too.

Ah yes, Synthia.... I remember seeing ads for it in AmigaWorld.
Can you review it for us? I remember the ad showed a pull-down
menu with the choice 'FFT' highlighted, which caught my attention.

I assume you still need the IFF file to edit? Can you save a Sonix
RFF instrument as a DMCS IFF file?

I already reviewed it in commusic conferecne.
I don't remember an FFT thing, don't get excited about fouriers.
You don't need an input instrument, you can create new instruments
a few different ways, additive, subtractive, percussion, interpolation.
It's basically all additive except for special things under percussion.
If you DO input an IFF instrument, it will add effects to it, like
a little reverb and a couple other things. I'm not excited about
that, but I still havn't made that many instruments, about 10 out
of the book (more like 15), and about 5-10 of my own, usually simple
    ones.

the current amiga world reviews tons of amiga music software.
    or maybe the previous one.
When people say DMCS just misses, they're being EXTREMELY picky.
It's capabilities are beyond most pop music, given the amiga sound
device plays only 4 voice, and dmcs can read and write midi now.

Minimetics SoundScape has a module the lets you record samples
and make them into IFF instruments that will work with
    Deluxe Music.

Gee, Ed, do you also believe that the only way to get art work for
Deluxe Paint is to buy Electronic Arts' Deluxe Paint Art and Utilities
disk? :-)

Although Ed is right that EA does provide instruments disks that can not
be redistributed because of copyrights, there are other sources of
instruments.

First, in the early days of the Amiga, there was a public domain demo music
program that allowed you to "play" the keyboard. The program didn't
have any note editing or play back--it just would allow you to select
an instrument from the menu (there were dozens of instruments) and press
keys on the keyboard to play the instrument like a (brain-damaged) piano.
Someone wrote a program to convert those public domain instruments from
whatever funny format they used to IFF instrument files. Sometime in
the last year, one of the big software collectors on the net uploaded
them all. A search of the notesfile will probably find them; maybe
the collector will add another reply to this note and save you the trouble.

Also, just as people can construct their own artwork and release it to
the public domain, people can construct their own instruments and
release them. Instruments can be created by completely synthetic means
by programs such as Synthia, or they can be created by sampling sounds
using a digitizer and driver software. The perfect sound digitizer
and its software can create IFF instruments. Sonix sells software
that works with perfect sound and allows you to "doctor" the sample
and create either IFF instruments or Sonix instruments. It is legal
to sample up to eight notes of a copyrighted musical performance.

So, there is a source of PD instruments out there. I am not sure why
people haven't been passing around as many PD instruments around as
they do PD artwork. (Well, ok, constructing an instrument does require
access to more tools...)

Does anyone have Cool Jazz for DMCS ?? I can't seem to find it anywhere
! Presumably it's been discontinued. I'm a jazz player and really want
to hear what it had to offer.

    Thanks in advance,
