1336.0. "New uploads from Lattice BBS" by WJG::GUINEAU () Thu Apr 14 1988 03:59

I downloaded these from the Lattice BBS last night (actually, it's tonight!)
and then uploaded them to WJG::AMIGA:

	GAZER2.ARC	- Real neat star gazer program. Draws constallations!
	CAMM.ARC	- Computer Aided Molecule Modeling (another 16 year
				old's program - argh!)
	FORKTST.ARC	- C example on using FORK() to spawn off 18 child
				processes

There your's for the copying :-)

I also DL'd the Lattice 4.x C compiler "release notes". I hesitate to post them
due to discussions in another note (on "Lattice 4.0"). However, I was allowed
to access this (rel_notes) file on the BBS, and NOT the patches. I had not yet
registered on the BBS (You need to "register" your product serial before you
can get the actual patches - I did send in my registration card and got my
update card in the mail, just never registered on thier BBS for electronic
updates).

Since the BBS is not restricted, this kind'a implies that this is
OK stuff for general public, right???

I suppose if I were sure you *owned* a copy of Lattice C, I could VMS MAIL
you a copy... I mean, if you own it, you could dial up and get it yourself,
right? And if you didn't own it, you wouldn't care - unless of course
you have an illegitimate copy... But then I would never give anyone the actual
patch anyway... My word! Listen to me babel! Better shut this thing off and go
to bed....

1336.1Release Notes are unrestrictedTLE::RMEYERSRandy MeyersThu Apr 14 1988 22:276
Re: .0

I am sure that Lattice wouldn't mind anyone redistributing any files
found in the "public" areas of their BBS. Since the release notes
are in the public, not restricted, area, I am sure it would be all right
to post them.
1336.2I hope your right!WJG::GUINEAUFri Apr 15 1988 00:527

In that case:

	WJG::AMIGA:AM4READ.ARC

1336.3.ARC files ok?DECEAT::LANDINGHAMEschew obfuscation!Fri Apr 15 1988 14:574
    My copy of ARC compiled for VMS seems to choke on the three
    aforementioned arc files, especially GAZER2. Anyone else have any
    problem with any of these? My experience is that if VMS ARC won't
    handle a file, neither will Amy's ARC after downloading...

Looks like I forgot to turn off CONVERT. (funny, I never do to download)

Anyway, GAZER2 works just fine with the VMS ARC I have.
For some reason, CAMM and FORKTST have a few bytes skipped at the end. The files
at the end of each are just test or example, so try them anyway.

AM4READ.ARC is also there. This is the Lattice C 4.01 release notes.

I guess I had better go back to using a TK50 from home to office for uploads.

1336.5Thanks for posting itGIDDAY::BAKERTue Apr 19 1988 02:2611
John,

     Thanks for uploading the V4.01 Release notes. I have the V3.03c
    release but from Australia the connect charges to these sorts of
    boards run to a few more dollars than I can afford. Good to know
    what is in the newer Version.
     Local calls, however, are not time-charged here.

 Thanks,
    John
1336.64.01 fix?WJG::GUINEAUTue Apr 19 1988 13:3719

I did the upgrade this weekend. Took 2 or 3 hours to do 2 sets of disks (yeh,
I should have just done the originals (Lattice's recomendation) and
backed them up again...).

There is also a fix to 4.01 on Lattice BBS ! Apparently thier
CXBRK, CXOVF and STUB routines in 4.01 caused system crashes.
So I guess 4.01 is the latest, The 4.01 fix didn't change the version number!?
I didn't look at the source for those modules, may be that the 4.01
upgrade has them in it. On the Lattice BBS there were 2 files:

	AMFIX400.ARC and AMFIX401.ARC

The fix400 was the upgrade and the fix401 had a readme that said apply this
to 4.01 (explaining about the crashes).
