 Apple - Slashes Macintosh Plus price 18% in bid to reposition the big seller
   Apple also lowered by 13% to 15% the price of its hard disk drives for its
 Macintosh computers. The price reductions were made to position the Macintosh
 Plus "to reach the more value-conscious markets of home business and small
 businesses," said Charles Boesenberg, Apple's senior VP and group executive
 for U.S. sales and marketing. The reduction, which is available immediately,
 should result in retail prices for the machine of about $1,300. While Apple
 hasn't felt pricing pressure from maker of compatible machines, it has been
 criticized for concentrating too much on well-heeled business markets and
 forsaking the low end of the personal computer market, which was once its
 bread and butter. John Sculley, Apple's president chairman and president, has
 emphasized that business customers are now Apple's top priority. According to
 Dataquest, a market research firm in San Jose, Calif., Apple last year sold
 340,000 Macintosh SE models, 281,000 Pluses and 77,000 IIs. "This really gives
 Apple a change to increase unit sales," said Dataquest's Norman DeWitt, who
 estimated that Apple will continue having profit margins in excess of 50% on
 the Macintosh Plus even after the price cuts. "This should also stimulate
 demand in schools and the home."

 Atari - Alleges Micron Technology is illegally profiting from U.S-Japan pact
   Atari charged that the tiny chip-making upstart whose complaints helped
 push the U.S. into signing the unprecedented trade agreement with Japan over
 semiconductors, is now illegally profiting from the pact. In a lawsuit filed
 Monday in San Jose, Calif., federal court, Atari accused Micron of breaking a
 contract with Atari for the sale of a certain quantity of memory chips, only
 to come back later and offer to sell Atari the chips at much higher prices.
 The lawsuit seeks damages from Micron for breach of contract, bad faith and
 violation of antitrust laws.

Gee, that sure is interesting.  Especially since a friend of mine's company
got a press release about the 3000 from C-A just last week.  I apologize for
not having it with me so I can tell you all the neat stuff about it, but he
has it at work and I have a terrible memory.  I do remember what I consider
the most important thing and that's that it has a 68030 cpu!  Well, as my
friend said, "This release is from the company making it, I'll believe it
when I hear official 3rd party news about it."

I just found the following in the last issue of Computer & Software News
(March 14, 1988):
 
"Return to the education market --
-- COMMODORE INTERNATIONAL SLASHES AMIGA PRICE
 
Commodore International is offering teachers its Amiga 500 cpu for $99.95 in 
the second phase of its re-instituted education program.
 
Available only through Comodore Dealers, the unit typically carries a list
price of $699.95.
 
For teachers who take advantage of the offer, however, they must also purchase 
a Commodore 1084 color monitor, an A1010 external 3.5-inch floppy-disk drive,
and an 8501 memory expansion board to expand the unit to 1 Mbyte RAM. The 
total package is priced at $999.80".
 
And this was in the same issue:
 
"The first IBM-licensed Micro-Channel clone may soon hit the European market.
The manufacturer of the machine? IBM sources indicate it could be COMMODORE,
which may have a unit out within the next 60 days.  Commodore insiders, 
meanwhile, acknowledge that talks on licensing the Micro Channel from IBM 
have taken place. However they mum on additional details."
