How should/would I set up a public account on my system (VAX) for access
for people to UL/DL Amiga software?

	Do you really want to create an account? For the purpose of UL/DL software it would be sufficient to create a [sub]directory the its protection field set to W:WRE. This would allow people to UL/DL to that directory via DECnet. Also make sure all the files in the directory have protect W:RE. If you want to set up a public account where anyone in the world could dial in and log-on, then there are some security concerns you need to address. It can be done in a secure way, and I'd be willing to help you (send E-Mail). For example you could create a captive account that would only allow someone who logs in to run KERMIT and XMODEM, and only access certain directories. The DECnet security guys try to discourage public accounts, I think if the account does not present any security problems that you will be ok.

	I would hope that we can co-ordinate this a bit, since we already have one such area here in shrewsbury that we are putting (slowly, but surely) some of the Fish disks onto. As I have said before, I'm more than happy to make space available for others, but as in other "moderated" endeavors, I'd like to keep tabs on it.... soo... the offer still stands...I'll be happy to copy over anyones arc files, etc. and make them available on MVCAD3::user0:[amiga...] I do think dec can afford a couple of these around the world, but do we all need to have one....(in fact, I'd be happy to let someone else take all the "non-fish" stuff, but it seems to me a central place is best... other comments??? flames??? whatever???
