674.0. "How good is DigiView/" by LEDS::ACCIARDI () Thu Aug 27 1987 12:19

    This is addressed to any or all DigiView users out there...

    Does DigiView capture an image with sufficient resolution to read
    the text on a standard 8 1/2" x 11" sheet of single-spaced typwritten
    text?

    Also, does the software give the option of digitizing a 640 x 400
    image with only one bit plane (black and white) or must I use 16
    gray scales? If true black and white is possible, a hi-res frame
    would take up only 32K of disk space.

    Thanks for any info.

    Yes to both questions ... however, you would need a glare-free copy
    stand with appropriate lighting. Also, using the contrast slider,
    you can turn anything into black and white (no shades of grey) at
    600x400. Of course you'll still have a 128K long file I believe.

    .. then using Butcher or DigiPaint you can reduce the number of
    bitplanes.
674.3Color Digiview?MEMORY::BERKSONWhat's that in the road - a head?Wed Sep 09 1987 19:208
    Is there a digitizer around yet that goes directly from a color
    video camera to Amiga? How much would a suitable color video camera
    cost?

    What is a good camera to use with Digiview (assuming it still does
    color in three passes) and how much does it cost?

    Nope.

    A good B&W security camera such as the Panasonic 1410 ($279 at Memory
    Location) does an excellent job.

    I should qualify that by adding that you can use a color camera
    (like a Video Camcorder) with DigiView V2, but you still need the
    three passes which are 20 seconds apiece. With a B&W camera, each
    of the three passes can be 5 sec. apiece. This is possible due the
    the greater resolution afforded the B&W cameras. Even with some
    of the best color cameras on the market today, the resolution is
    very poor.
