635.0. "Amiga at SIGGRAPH" by LEDS::ACCIARDI () Wed Aug 05 1987 12:18

Tuesday night's Computer Show had a report from SIGGRAPH (This is
    the Comdex of computer graphics).

The theme of this year's show was real-time animation with the new
generation of low-end workstations. There were various and sundry
Suns and Pixars showing megapixel animation, though at a fairly
slow frame rate, maybe 10 frames/sec by my eagle eyes.

They showed a Mac ][ animating away by bringing in frames from it's
hard drive. (C'mon, Commodore, lets ship the new drivers!)

Mixed in with all these high-powered monsters was a lowly Amiga
running NewTek's MAXINE HEADROOM demo, complete with a digitized
stutter. Guess which demo was the most impressive one shown? Yup.
MAXINE will knock your socks clear into the next county. Anyone
who's seen some DigiView HAM pics will understand why.

The commentator paused by the Amiga exhibit, and commented that
...'This animation was not produced on one of these multi-thousand
dollar workstations, but on Commodore's low cost Amiga personal
    computer'

I don't know if MAXINE has been placed in the public domain yet,
but if it is, be assured that I'll find it and make it available
    to anyone who wants it.

I was told that it would be on the FAUG PD disks that were available
at last nights meeting in Palo Alto. If so, a friend is picking
me up a copy. If/when I get mine, I'll upload it and post a pointer
    here.
