262.0. "64 ==> Amiga transfer?" by NISYSE::GREENIDGE () Wed Jan 21 1987 12:55

    Will Commodore release a tool to upload software/data from
    a 64 format to the Amiga? I have heard about the IBM emulator,
    but a 64 emulator would be nice so people can make the upgrade
    without having to retype all of their old data. Is it possible
    to transfer the data out of the serial port on the 1541 to the
    Amiga, or is this a crazy pipe dream?

                              Thanks,

    Sometime back at the Commodore Show in Marlboro I saw a brief demo
    (ie simply startup) of a product like transformer for the 64. I
    believe it was called "GO 64!" but I could be wrong.

    Anyone else have any real info?

I just got into this conference,(I'm about to get an Amiga 500) so this
may be old stuff...

There is such a thing and it is called GO 64!
Costs about $60. It's a board that plugs into the (serial?) port and the 1541
plugs into it. It comes with software to emulate the 64 and claims it does FULL
64 graphics, I think sound etc... Im getting one! I'll post the results here
in a while.

    There's another one called The 64 Emulator from ReadySoft, Inc.
    ($60 with serial interface) They claim it runs GEOS, etc. I'd
    be very interested in hearing anyone's experiences with either of
    these emulators (or similar products)...
262.4GO 64! gets a no goCOGITO::MURATORIRichTue Dec 08 1987 16:496
    GO 64! got a very bad review in the latest issue of Amazing Computing.
    It claimed that it ran 64 BASIC programs at 30% speed and 64 Assembly
    programs at 10% speed. The were several bugs and poorly implemented
    features that were mentioned (I can't remember them offhand). The
    conclusion was that it was impressive as a programming effort but
    was not very useful in practice.
