121.0. "Serial port window..." by ANT::SMCAFEE (Steve McAfee) Mon Sep 29 1986 18:34

The idea of opening a window through the serial port of the Amiga
is mentioned several times in the latest issue of AmigaWorld. It
looks like there are several software packages that will do this.

What does this mean? Does it mean I can connect another terminal
to the serial port? Why emulate a VT100 if you can hook one up
to this port? My wife and I could use the Amiga at the some time!
Oh damn! I just realized if I hook a terminal on my serial port,
I can't connect to my modem, so what would I need terminal emulation
    for?

    regards,

Steve McAfee "Contually amazed at the things my Amiga can do that
                  I don't know about."

121.1AUX-HANDLER!TUBED::GRAYThomas Gray, LABC Technical SupportWed Feb 25 1987 22:0315
Metacomco (the people who did AmigaDOS) have a package they call
The Metacomco Toolkit. There is a device driver in there called
Aux-Handler which you can plug into V1.2 Workbench and hook up
    another terminal to your Amiga!

Once you have Aux-Handler in your DEVS: directory (or is it L:?),
simply type MOUNT AUX: and then NEWCLI AUX:... A new task will
be created with I/O directed to the serial port. I haven't
checked out VT100 compatibility.. seems like it should
provide at least X3.64 compatibility though, through the CON:
driver. This seems mostly useful for debugging sessions to
me.. multi-user and Amiga are a contradiction in terms! Get
an Amy 500 for your wife and network it into your 1000 --now
    that's a multi-user Amiga!
