116.0. "$100 rebate" by AUTHOR::MACDONALD (CUP/ML) Fri Sep 26 1986 12:42

8 days after purchasing my Amiga for $995 plus a box of free diskettes
at Electronics Boutique in Nashua, the price was cut 10%. I wandered
in last night and they cheerfully rebated me $100! Seems like a
reasonable company to do business with (47 stores across the country).

Having given you a box of diskettes instead of a monitor, I guess they could
still afford to give you another $100.

I checked a number of dealers and there was NOONE selling the machine
for $995 with a "free" monitor. ComputerMart was $1295 with a "free"
    monitor.

The $1295 price at ComputerMart also includes Textcraft, and Graphicraft.
While many will say that these two programs are not as good as some
on the market, they excel in what ComputerMart had in mind. Both programs
are exceptionally easy to use an will allow a new user to "use" their
Amiga.Working in the industry we tend to take a lot for granted. What
is acceptable to us in performance may very well be overwhelming
to a person that has never been exposed to computers.(At times the
Amiga has the ability to amaze and surprize us all)A few nights
ago I recieved a phone call from a user I had never met. This person
was having trouble with some Fish disks an had been given my number
by the computer store. While we where talking he mentioned that he
would be in Nashua to attend his free lecture on using the Amiga being
given down at ComputerMart an we made plans to get together at my
home before he went down to the store. I recently made a special
trip to EB down at the Pheasent lane mall to turn them on to some
PD software. The people there said they were interested in public
domain software, but then totally ignored me.After twisting their
arm I managed to give them a copy of the Graphic version of hack
from BCS.Of course I had to make the copy because it exceded the
ability of the person I was working with .(only one drive)This I
might understand, but the fact that he had NO interest in watching
to see how I made the copy supprized me.All the while I felt like
I was imposing on them. That was all I could give them because they
could not supply me with anymore disk.(the one we used was one that
had been messed up so they let me try it).The store did have a newer
selection of software, however i'll order mine from ComputerMart
an wait,or try Instant Software before I venture into EB again.
The whole point to this is if your looking for an Amiga without
A moniter and are willing to trade support for bucks then you should
try for the deal that makes you happy. On inquiring at EB about the
cost of a system with moniter the sales rep wasen't sure but it was
"someware around $1300" I,m still not sure because they never bothered
to get an actual cost. Two days later one of my friends picked up a
system for her son at ComputerMart.
    	 $1295 w/moniter,graphcraft,textcraft,an a mousepad,and a few
    	 disk thrown in.
OH! Almost forgot 20% off software at "CM",and if you drop in take
some extra disks in case you see some PD stuff you may not have,or
better yet if you have some take it in they will supply a disk and
    add it to the library.
PS. no matter where you go at the system level they ALL bargain.
