Where did this information come from ? Is this a "wishful thinking"
rumour, or is there a solid source for this ?

IT CAME FROM MANAGEMENT AS SOMETHING THEY HAD BEEN TOLD WAS COMING.
THAT IS MY ONLY SOURCE SO I AM TRYING TO VERIFY IT.

BTW, maybe your management can find a terminal to replace your VT50
with. You'll find being able to use lower case letter, which your
VT50 can't handle, will make your notes easier to read. Or were
you shooting? That's generally what notes in UPPER CASE are.

i also did not know that upper case notes meant shouting when i came
to DEC and first started notes ,so another possibility is that the
author of .0 is a new DECeee ?

i know from my own experience that it takes at least 2-3 year of
exposure to learn all the ins and outs of noting policies and procedures.

Alfred,

If the base noter were shooting, wouldn't their comments be bulletized? I
thought upper case was shouting?

    HA,HA,
THANKS ALFRED I ENJOY A GOOD SENSE OF HUMOR, I GUESS I SHOULD FESS UP
THOUGH AND TELL YOU I DON'T EVEN HAVE A VT50 ITS REALLY A VT05. DO YOU
REMEMBER THOSE OR HAVE YOU NOT BEEN AROUND LONG ENOUGH? WHICH LETTER
DID YOU HAVE IN MIND WHEN YOU SUGGESTED I USE LOWER CASE,OR DID YOU
MEAN LETTERS, IN WHICH CASE YOU SHOULD HAVE ADDED THE "S". ONE OTHER
POINT BY THE WAY GOOD GRAMMER DICTATES WE SHOULD NEVER START A SENTENCE
WITH "OR". PLEASE FORGIVE ME BUT I DID NOT INTEND TO BE SHOOTING AT
ANYONE OR COULD IT BE THAT REPLY 2207.7 WAS CORRECT.
                                THANKS AL

1) VT05's were upper case only, but I could have sworn they weren't 80 columns.
2) It's "grammar", not "grammer"
3) If there's a new SERP with a seven year adder, wouldn't it have to be
offered to anyone over 48? (55 is the minimum early retirement age, isn't
   it?)

    1) 72 columns (That's why the text files shipped with RT-11 V5.6 are
limited to 72 chars per line (otherwise someone, somewhere would
    complain)).

    3) The way TFSO is going 26 weeks + pension adder is getting very
    competitive.

    VT05 rathole...

VT05s could send and receive upper and lower case (if you flipped
a switch to enable u/l case), but could display only uppercase...so
one had no idea whether characters being sent or received were
in lowercase or not. The feature was not particularly useful.

Put 0eu in your tecini file and TECO will flag lower case characters with
a preceding ' (quote mark). That's what I do on my VT05 so that I can
enter notes without shouting (or shooting).

OK, enough of these unfounded and uncalled for rumors. The real rumor
is 48, 8, and 8. Let's not talk about 50 being the cutoff date anymore.
Things like that tend to come true. We want the 48 age limit to be the
    predominant rumor.

2207.24Citicorp deal - bbGAAS::BRAUCHERWelcome to ParadiseThu Jun 27 1996 13:1023

from the Lowell Sun, 6/26/96 :

MAYNARD - Digital Equipment Corp. yesterday said it has received
a three-year, $500 million deal to build and manage a desktop
     computer network for Citicorp.
Digital said the company will operate the network on a monthly
payment plan. Officials described the deal as one of the largest
contracts ever awarded for global desktop and local-area-network
     management.
Digital, like other large computer companies, is making a
concentrated effort to generate revenue in its service business.
It is doing this by channeling outside work to the large service
organization that used to do most of its work in house.
Analysts described the deal as evidence that Digital's service
business is competing better for large contracts, but added that
service deals tend to carry low profit margins.
The contract will add some local employment. The Boston Herald
today quoted a Digital spokesman as saying the company will hire
30 to 40 people at a Marlboro office that will provide services
such as technical advice for Citicorp employees.
