             BBN Corp. selects GIGAswitch/FDDI products

Today, BBN Corp. and Digital announced that BBN has selected
Digital's GIGAswitch/FDDI technology to provide increased throughput
within its Internet backbone nodes. The leading provider of managed
Internet access and value-added services for businesses and
organizations, BBN Planet is deploying the switches as part of its
network infrastructure upgrades. The announcement was made at
   InternetWorld, San Jose, Calif.
"Businesses and organizations continue to leverage BBN's
marketing expertise and leadership in delivering industrial strength
internet solutions for their mission critical business applications,"
said Cliff Conneighton, vice president of marketing for BBN Planet.
"We are partnering with Digital to ensure that our customers get the
performance and reliability that they need to run their businesses
today -- and in the future."
"Given BBN Planet's position as one of the world's premier ISPs
we are obviously pleased that they selected our GIGAswitch/FDDI
products for this ambitious project," said Dr. Laurence G. Walker, vice
president and general manager of Digital's Network Product Business.
"The GIGAswitch/FDDI is working successfully in many Internet
installations and we look forward to leveraging this experience for BBN
   Planet."
This significant networking solution was linked together with the
help of Pioneer-Standard Electronics, one of Digital's largest
   Authorized Distributors.
"Pioneer works with Digital across a number of industries but
none as fast-moving and demanding as the ISP marketplace," said
Marilyn Koch, account manager for BBN at Pioneer. "As the Internet is
increasingly used by the business community for mission-critical and
enterprise networking applications, ISPs like BBN are demanding higher
levels of performance from their vendors. We are excited about the
opportunity to work with BBN Planet in this strategic area and
thrilled with the switching technology that working with Digital has
   enabled us to deliver."
According to a recent study by the Dell'Oro Group, Digital ranks
first in FDDI switching revenue and port shipments worldwide.
   Digital's GIGAswitch/FDDI is a multiport packet-switching platform that
creates a switched FDDI network. With an aggregate bandwidth that
greatly exceeds the 100M bps limit of a traditional single ring, the
GIGAswitch employs an unprecedented 3.6G bps switching fabric and
provides up to 6.25 million connections per second. This high-
performance switch also provides sophisticated filtering capabilities
to define separate traffic, access security, and user domains such as
   virtual LANs.

The fastest way to get something *nice* (=glossy) to your customer
would be to call 800-457-8211 and request that FDDI info be sent to

    the NPB fulfillment house.
