478.0. "Matching Gift program" by GIAENG::ROGICH (JERRY) Mon Feb 29 1988 11:55

      Can anyone direct me to the proper person who would have the list
    of "Matching  Gift" recipients ??

      I would like to send in a form for a matching gift but I'm not
    sure if "Our Fathers House" in Fitchberg is in the program. I know
    Digital is a corporate sponsor on theirs, but not sure about the
    "Matching Gift" program.

       Thanks
       J Rogich

    Contact Marilyn Anderson, MSO/K10; she is the Matching Gifts Coordinator.

478.2One rule of thumbREGENT::BROOMHEADDon't panic -- yet.Mon Feb 29 1988 19:275
    If the organization is acceptable to the IRS as a 501(c)3
    organization, it is eligible for matching funds. And ANY
    organization that is 501(c)3 knows it.

    But DIGITAL must also "know it" when providing matching funds to
    a non-religious organization. Also, DIGITAL will recognize NON-501(c)
    operations if they will submit to Digital's matching funds coordinator
    a copy of their incorporation papers.

478.5When in doubt, send the formDR::BLINNOpus in '88 (Penguin Lust!)Mon May 02 1988 19:399
        When in doubt, fill out and send the form. Unless you're sure
        that the organization is NOT permissible, it's easier to fill
        it out than to try to get a preliminary decision. If you're
        really concerned about the cost to the organization to process
        the form, include a stamped, pre-addressed envelope for them
        to send it to DEC. They have to fill out the rest of the form,
        anyway.

    By the way, the program is only valid if you are a Digital employee
    that has been hired in the U.S. I am a U.S. citizen hired locally
    in Valbonne and I can't get matching funds from DEC to give a
    (sizeable) donation to my alma mater, Cornell University just because
    I was hired locally (or directly from the U.S.) into Digital Valbonne
    in France. The coordinator told me that issues of taxation and
    geography were of paramount importance as to who could take advantage
    of the program. Considering that Cornell is even a strategic
    university for Digital, this bothers me even more that my contribution
    can't be matched. There should be a slush fund or something set
    aside for we expatriates.
