2664.0. "Need Stuff with a Digital Logo" by GRANPA::DFAUST (With every wish, there comes a curse) Sat Sep 11 1993 23:19

I am looking for some sweatshirts or associated stuff with a Digital
logo on it to give some customers. Is there a internal store somewhere
in Digital that I could order stuff from? Any and all help would be
    appreciated.

Try the bookstore in the Parker Street training center. PK03 is the
facility code I believe. I don't know if you can place internal orders there
nor if this is actually run by Digital (i.e. have a DTN), however.

Also, try asking someone in sales where the pens, notepads, etc.
    (used to?) come from.

    RE: PKO3 Bookstore

    They have closed down.

And sorry, I can't recall any site that has an open store anymore. MR1
used to have one on a part-time basis but that was a few years back.

The employee activities committee at MKO1 has a store that's open for a
couple of hours a day two days a week, Thursday and Friday, I think.

Send me MAIL on Monday and I'll check the times and get you a contact
    person.

HLO has a logo store that sells items with the Digital logo. Send mail
to Honey SHARE::MAYO and she can probably tell you what is available.
Also, the old ACTs had promotional material available. Most of it was
purchased locally from companies that specialize in those things. If
ordered in a reasonable quantity, the prices were very reasonable. For
example, I believe the gold plated mugs (NOT suitable for the microwave
oven due to the gold plating) with the Digital logo cost about $5 each.

Mike, Most of these items are for sale only to DECcies. Generally to
raise money to fund various employee activities. They're not being sold
as freebies to give to customers.

I just checked the prices for logo sweats (shirts and pants) at ZKO - $15
each. Hooded sweatshirts are $20.

You should understand that most of these stores are run by volunteers,
working on their lunch breaks. That includes contacting vendors, screen
printers, etc. You can expect to see a wide variation in pricing, as well
as a variety of styles and colors.
2664.17Just do it, damnit.FREEBE::MFOLEYGravity, like Rust, never sleeps.Tue Sep 14 1993 17:3725
I read the preceeding entries with (sarcasm intended) amusement.
This is an (another) issue that I feel that DEC has (again) totally
missed the boat on. Don't you people get it? Where are the marketeers?
Where are the advertisers? Are they all ignorant or just incompetant?

Granted, some customers have "20.10" rules about receiving "gifts" from
vendors, but most do not. It the most inexpensive form of continuous
advertising you can have. Every time a customer picks up that coffee
cup that sez "Digital Has it Now" on it, they will be reminded of that
fact. Will we ever have "it" again? Not unless we wake up. All the
politically correct bullsh*t in world can make up for missed
opportunities, and we seem to missing them by the truckload.

I for one would (and have) given away "trinkets" to good customers out
of my own pocket, and still enjoy the goodwill of those people. I
wasn't trying to influence a purchase or buy votes, just good
old-fashioned "Hey - these are cool (object-name-here), want one?".

So, here's the plan. "Offically licensed, for sale to the public,
advertised in paper media, Digital Logo'ed stuff", AT A REALISTIC
    PRICE!

    Handle that.
    .mike.

I've gotten mail from several folks trying to help me out, but I will
be on the road for the rest of this week at a customer site. I will be
following up with all of them and will post my results here. Thanks to
all who replied to me, either via mail or this note. Once again you've
demonstrated what Digital's more valuable asset really is.

2664.20ICS::BEANAttila the Hun was a LIBERAL!Wed Sep 15 1993 00:1122
I was talking to a friend the other day at the Student Services Window
at PKO3. There was a large box of mechanical pencils with the DIGITAL
logo imprinted... and she was just giving them away. She said some
sales person dropped them off (she mentioned she had about 8000 of
them) because they were no longer the "correct" logo.

For YEARS I have tried to get DEC to include some trinket like this in
the student kit boxes our customers receive (yes...even our DEC
EMPLOYEE customers)... NO DEAL! TOO EXPENSIVE sez they!

I'd bet any single one of the Customer Training Instructors (now DLS)
spend many more hours face to face with more customers than practically
any sales rep. They give these things away... why not us, too? What
an opportunity missed to put just a small reminder to the many students
(many of whom are decision makers in their own companies) who pass
    through the various training centers.

We can toss them away because the color is wrong... but, we can't
afford to give them away to our customers.

I get all of my Digital logo and AXP stuff from Recognition, Inc. They are in
Connecticut and their number is 800-933-5525. Tell them I sent ya.

As a point of clarity, the sale items contain version 1 (pac man) of
the logo. Since we haven't reached sizeable mass in installed base yet,
I doubt that customers will notice or care.
