4086.0. "Looking for OpenVMS source code program office" by CSC32::D_DONOVAN (SummaNulla(The High Point of Nothing)) Tue Aug 29 1995 17:26

I just spoke with a customer, MTI Technology, who would like to speak
with the people responsible for the OpenVMS Alpha Source Code listings CD
distribution. Could someone provide a name/pointer/?

Thanks,

Dennis

Be careful, MTI has a history of stealing or reverse engineering
products for which they have not obtained a valid license from Digital.
Just ask anybody in the field.

Be careful. Those are exactly the sorts of statements that
fly in the face of our corporate policy regarding negative
comments about other companies or individuals.

Just to let those of you who are concerned - MTI has been receiving
OpenVMS VAX source code for quite some time and they just started up the
Alpha service within the last year. This is something that we (DEC err...
Digital) have been offering to the "public" for quite some time.

However, the two names given in the first REPLY are not responding.
Does anyone else have any other leads??

Thanks,

4086.7Looking For Expurgated Modules?XDELTA::HOFFMANSteve; VMS EngineeringWed Aug 30 1995 18:5021

You might tell us what information MTI is looking for -- it might make it
easier to direct you to the correct personage(s)...

A couple of the local engineers worked on the most recent source listing
expurgations. Based on no information, I suspect that MTI is looking for
one or more modules were expurgated and/or for various tools are usually
omitted from the source listing kit. Based on no information other than
the sort of gear MTI usually sells, this may have something to do with
clustering, and thus Nick Carr (star::ncarr) would be the contact. If
MTI is looking for something not related to clustering and if Tim Ellison
isn't answering, try Georjean Staehelin (star::georjean) and Bill Hanley
  (star::hanley)...

If this request _is_ for module(s) or tool(s) that were omitted from the
listings CD-ROM service, you _will_ want to clear their release to MTI
through the formal product management channels.

re: .-1

The person I spoke with at MTI, a Brian Almond, wants to know if
the distribution they receive is "complete". He tried to explain the meaning
of "complete" as such:

"If I receive the CD source listings for V6.2 will it have the
listings for all of the components or just those that have
	 changed or are new..."

I presume that he was referring to how the results disks we for the
minor releases such as V5.5-2 only have a subset of the listings. However,
I have a gut-feeling that Brian wants more information than just my cursory
knowledge of the distribution so I am looking for a qualified resource.

The V6.2 CD-ROM source listings kit should contain all listings
for all modules in all facilities, save for those modules that
are expurgated from the kits for one or more reasons -- usually
for legal, patent, licensing, and/or general sensitivity reasons.

The V6.2 listings kit is as complete a kit as a customer is going
to receive via the standard software distribution channels.
(We rebuilt everything for V6.2 from source as we do for most
releases, and we'd have to do yet more work to locate modules that
   did not change from V6.1.)
