3903.0. "Items with Digital/AlphaGeneration logos now available from Lands' End" by NYAAPS::CORBISHLEY (David Corbishley 323-4376) Fri May 26 1995 15:45

For those of you interested in items with the Digital logo we are happy to
announce a direct order arrangement with Lands' End. You can order items
with a combination of the Digital and AlphaGeneration logos. That is, the
Digital logo 1 inch over a slightly smaller AlphaGeneration logo.

How about that Rugby shirt, Squall jacket, or soft luggage? Any item in the
Lands' End catalog that can be embroidered can be ordered with this logo.

NOTE: They require an order of at least 6 of any one item. The items can
be of different sizes and colors, just the same item for setup purposes.
For example, you need 6 polo shirts but they can be any combination of sizing
and colors.

When ordering specify LOGO # 958939 K. This logo cannot be modified in any
way and they cannot add group names, etc.

To order via phone, call (800)338-2000 for Corporate Sales. International
orders can call direct at (608)935-9341. They will then take your order
with a charge card. Each item will be charged $5 for the embroidery, just
like they charge when you have your initials put on an item. Normal shipping
charges apply. Use the same numbers to request a catalog.

Purchase Orders can also be accepted with prior approval of Lands' End. Call
them for details.

I will shortly post an offer to form a group order for those only wanting 1 or
2 items as a reply to this note.

Enjoy!

Lands' End is one of the biggest mail-order firms around. Mostly
clothes and such items. They also have a seperate home items catalog.

As the base notes mentioned, call the 800 # for a catalog, or
800-356-4444 (the consumer catalog #). Available 24 hours a day.

I can attest to the quality; I got one of the original Alpha logo (the
"electric" one) shirts from Dave back around 1993(?), and it's still
in great shape.

The AlphaGeneration logo consists of the words ALPHA GENERATION as if
printed on a circular ribbon that is tilted away from the viewer some 10-15
degrees towards the lower right. ALPHA is on the top segment of the ribbon
(starting at about 11-o-clock and ending at about 2-o-clock) and is in
white superimposed over a red horizontal bar. GENERATION is on the "inside"
of the ribbon in red starting at about 7-o-clock and ending where ALPHA ends
just touching the bottom of the red bar. Of course, a red TM is there as
well.

Not the flashiest logo in the world, but simple and recognizeable.

Glad to see these available, but these logos sound tiny. How about
sweatshirts with the digital logo, say 8 or 10 inches wide
across the front and back? It would look nice on a grey background...

Not always. Some people prefer more subtle logos, especially on jackets and
polo or golf shirts. (It's for them, not for the audience a hundred yards
away.)

What good is a logo if you're the only one who knows what it
    	says?

If I wear an unordinary shirt it's because I happen to like it
and want to "share it" with others. Comic tees, cartoon char-
acters, funny sayings [yeah, I know what you're thinking ...
is this guy EVER gonna grow up?? I think not!! 8^)], etc.

A guy I used to work with had a black T-shirt with a VERY small
white-lettered caption right around the left nipple which said
    	"Nosey little f*****, aren't you?".

>> What good is a logo if you're the only one who knows what it
>> says?

I suppose you could say the same thing about a lapel pin or a tie tack. Or a
pen or watch with a company logo on it (or a picture of, er, the soon-to-be
Franklin elder care center), for that matter. If you don't like it, don't buy
it; if I do, I will.

Would you rather wear a polo shirt with a little polo player on the upper left,
or a polo shirt with a huge "RALPH LAUREN" across it? Some of us prefer the
former. (I don't even know if you happen to like polo shirts, actually; that's
another taste preference.)

It doesn't bother me if you want to wear large logo items, but please don't
assume that everybody else likes it that way, and please don't assume that a
small logo is somehow "no good." Please stop trying to convince me that my
taste is "wrong."

3903.15Size is about 3 inches across and 4 inches on the verticalNYAAPS::CORBISHLEYDavid Corbishley 323-4376Thu Jun 01 1995 14:596
The combined logo set measures as above. Remember, this is the Digital logo and
the ALPHAGENETATION logo too. It fits nicely on a wide rango of products,
shirts, luggage, etc.

Those desiring other sizes need to find a vedor and get Brand Management to
approve the design (spacing, etc. is important to them).

A few years ago, during the depths of the slump, I sadly removed my
"I <heart> DIGITAL" bumper-stickers (I had two of 'em, one of which had
the heart covered with an Apple logo... I had been in the Pathworks for
    Mac development group).

This past weekend I happened across another "I <heart> DIGITAL"
sticker... and -- sadder, older, wiser, but with a growing pride in our
technology and our recovery, I trimmed off the "I <heart>" and affixed
DIGITAL to my bumper once more.

But it's a BLUE logo... And :-) Burgundy would go better with my
fire-engine-red bumper... And I wouldn't mind counterbalancing it with
    an AlphaGeneration sticker...

Just to reply to the last few items:

1) No, I will probably not offer t-shirts. I don't think they are as good a
value as the polo shirts.

2) Squall jackets just listed as an item that Lands' End sells. I might add
this in the fall. Feel free to form your own order of 6 at your facility.
