Not an auspicious start, but somehow poignantly Digital. Where's Ted

Of course, it would be much more successful if you spelled it as it appeared
in the notice (i.e. "tecnet").

Interesting that they chose that powerful internet tool, VTX PMP, for
registration :-). Oh wait, different rathole.

There is a charge for the symposium. The symposium is being held at the Sheraton
in Nashua, and the charge is to cover facilities, lunch, and snacks costs. The
charge was originally $600 and has been reset to $150. The lower cost is due to a
better estimate of the total costs of putting on the symposium.

About the registration process using VTX. It wasn't my choice and if I had to do it
over again I would make sure that I had the time to set up a Web based registration
system. In any event I hope that if you are interested in the content of the
symposium, that the registration process wouldn't discourage you from coming. If
you don't have access to VTX (or just can't get yourself to use it), send me your
name and badge number and I will register you in the symposium.

Note that we used the existing registration infrastructure,
        and that it's VTX-based, not web-based. It wasn't a question
of doing a VTX interface vs. a Web interface; it was a
question of using an existing system vs. rolling our own.

Of course, it would be really nice if somebody in IM&T (or
whatever) would come up with a reusable, general-purpose
        Web-based registration system.

While we're in the rathole, when I accessed VTX HCCZ_US yesterday, I
noticed it added insult to injury -- on one page if you tried to submit
data with return, it took you to a type PF1-enter message.

4213.9yes if everyone had a browser ....TROOA::MSCHNEIDERDigital has it NOW ... Again!Wed Oct 25 1995 15:019
Yes and it would be nice if everyone in the world could use Web-based
tools from their home .... I can't yet so lets not quibble about what
tools we use to do it. VTX is available from any terminal in Digital
(yes there are lots of those still around).

It gets the job done .... oh I can't feel a "why VTX sucks" rathole
    beginning here.

FWIW...:-) My colleague David Marques built a supernifty self-
    registration-with-EMail-verification engine for the Klick-the-Tires
demostation for Workgroup Web Forum; he used the Workgroup Web Forum
framework devised by Griffin/Chiu that is delivered with V1.0 of the
product... When you sign up to try the demo (which you can do from ANY
forms-capable web browser, down to Lynx), it requires you give it a
valid EMail address. It ships you an EMail at that address. If you
reply (and assuming you've filled in the other required forms & have
read the Ground Rules) you're in.

Do I sense the basis of a future reusable Web-based registration system
    beginning here...?

Oh whoops, that EMail address is internet-style. NeverMind...
It'll never catch on inside Digital.

Just have him push the "Feedback" button on the page (or you can). I
believe that the comments go to Russ Jones rather than Mick.
