3601.0. "Can you tell me how to get to SPD!" by NYOSS1::CATANIA () Tue Dec 27 1994 11:11

    Can anyone tell me what the H_LL is the correct way to get online SPD's
    I seem to get to a dead end in VTX. (No comments on how useless this
    product really is :-) )

    	Try VTX IR (for Integrated Repository)
3601.2It's all in there somewhere!GLDOA::WERNERTue Dec 27 1994 11:307
    Try VTX IR as the previous note stated. Then choose SP which is
    IR-speak for SPD's. Then you may choose how to search for it, i.e. by a
    keyword or by SPD number. While the IR is sometimes a real step
    backwards from the old system, it appears to be inevitable, so get used
    to it.

Another way to look for SPDs which I sometimes prefer to VTX IR is to use
a WWW browser and get them from Digital's web server at
http://www.digital.com/home.html. Use the search function, select "Software
Product Descriptions", enter the keyword and off you go.

3601.4Now I need bitmaps...NYOSS1::CATANIATue Dec 27 1994 14:0910
    OK I've found what I was lookingfor, but why is there a sep............
    Ahh it's not worth the bandwidth...

    My next question, Does anyone know where I can get some bitmap files
    of our latest hardware to include in a Microsoft Word document for
    diagramming purposes. ??? A VAX-7620, HSC's and storageworks cabinets
    would be nice??? Also a VAXSTATION 4000 VLC and a VT420 would also
    help.

    Mike,

    If you have access to a DEC OSF/1 or mips ULTRIX system:

     Find a catalog on the web, such as the DECdirect catalog. Use
     the xv tool to grab & crop the image the image. Save it to a BMP file.

     (VT420 is at: http://www2.service.digital.com/ddi/html/274-10.html)

     A sample 420 bmp (greyscale) is at: ravine:/usr/public/420.bmp.

You can do all that from VMS as well. But the Digital Art Library
on TRINTY has lots of pictures of systems for inclusion in documents.
See the TRINTY::DIGITAL_ARTLIBRARY conference for details or use your
favorite WWW browser and check out
        http://art.pa.dec.com/html/visual-libraries.html

    ... and let me add to Steve's note that much/most of the credit for the
    ArtLibrary goes to its founder and proprietor, the aMAzing Erik Goetze.

    I've got almost all or all of what you are looking for in WMF or CGM
    formats (vector drawings, not bitmap). Some of what you are looking for is
    available in TIF and GIF bitmap formats (from photos) but nothing in
    color, yet.

    The Web URL given works great for locating and downloading the files.
    To find such items from a textual list, refer to
    TRINTY::AZ:[PC]MASTERPC.LIS

    And most of the ArtLibrary is available from within VTX IR, under the
    information category AL.

    thanks for providing the pointers, Dan & Steve!

    I looked in VTR IR under AL, but a lot of things were not available.
    I'll try the other routes also...

    Thanks..
