468.0. "DEC Org Chart Please" by KAOO01::RITCHE () Wed Feb 17 1988 14:21

    I would appreciate knowing how I can obtain a copy of a Digital
    organization chart. Doesn't even have to be up-to-date (they
    never are or can be).

    As part of the Canadian Subsidiary, I've been able to get my
    hands on our org here (not in the Personnel Policies & Procedures
    Manual), but would also like to get a picture of the rest of the
    DEC "world".

    In particular, I need a high level functional chart of
    Digital as well as more detailed orgs of areas that relate to
    my function. (e.g. GIA, Network Security, Information Security,
    Corporate Security, DIS, etc.)

    Having recently joined DEC, I am impressed with the amount of
    information that is available/shared amongst 110,000+ employees
    via the Digital style of computing. Makes the Information
    Security challenge I have here in Canada (@TRS) very interesting!

    Assistance appreciated.

        Allen R.

        Ha! Org chart? What makes you think that there is any consistent
        method to the madness in this organization.

        q :-)

  OK, here goes. This org. chart will continue to function through the
next several reorganizations, and shows the really important aspects of
Digital.

468.3I have a blurred oneHACKIN::MACKINJim Mackin, VAX PrologWed Feb 17 1988 21:5414
    I went to an orientation where they actually gave us a photocopy
    of "an" orgnizational chart (top 5 or 6 levels only, and then only
    within my organization). It was made maybe within a month or two
    of the seminar, and was already wrong. It also had print so small
    and blurry that it was next to impossible to read -- I could make
    out Ken's name, but only because I knew it was supposed to be there.

    The most notable thing about it is that it wasn't a hierarchal chart:
    it looked more like a tic-tac-toe (Noughts & Crosses for you
    Limey's) board than anything else. A real mess.

    (Imagine an org chart with all 110,000 employees on it :^).

    The 87/88 Guide to Organizations is probably the best, regurlarly
    updated summary of a good chunk of Digital (if not everything).
    Alas, it too is already out of date.
468.5Personnel P & P Manual is a good reference!YUPPIE::COLEStrange in a stranger landThu Feb 18 1988 11:073
	I have a copy of a page from the Personnel P & P manual that gives the
first three levels. That's KO and Corporate Operations; the first tier of
VP's; and then their vertical structure of reports.

    The best picture of "matrix management" ( which still exists to
    some extent though not so much as in the olden days ) was an org
    chart that consisted of a picture of a plate of spaghetti.

    I wonder who played the sauce.

    I thought 'sauce' was discouraged on company premises :-)

    You can get a copy of the Corporate Organization Chart by contacting
    Marilyn Golembeski @251-1306. Her location is CF02-3/C19. I got
    one in October from her. Hope this helps.

    Please DO NOT Call Marilyn directly. She has been swamped with
    calls and has other responsibilities than handling the organzation
    charts. You may send her VAXmail at CELICA::GOLEMBESKI, if you
    would like to be placed on the distribution list.

Thank You for your cooperation.
