4823.0. "Alpha NT/SQL Performance/Benchmark data?" by STOWOA::BLANCHARD () Tue Sep 03 1996 17:13

Does anyone know where Performance or Benchmarking data can be
    located for SQL on Alpha/NT?

A proposal was made for Alpha NT/SQL, an Alpha 2100A with 1 Alpha
21064/250 processor was loaned to banking customer for testing, but
the results were more or less the same as with an AST Pentium 100 dual
    processor.

    Thanks,
    B

I assume you expected to be much faster? I am sure you were more
    expensive. 8-(

I have not seen any up-to-date NT SQL on Alpha data. The 2100 TPC
results were withdrawn. I believe there is AlphaServer 1000A data.

I believe David Hunter (AMCUCS::HUNTER) is the guru you want.

Current fastest system we have running MS-SQL TPC tests is a 4 processor
Prioris ZX with 166Mhz PPro processors. The 2100 5/300 numbers are so bad
relative to the Prioris numbers that they're not worth discussing.

I've not seen anything on the 4100 platform, but even if faster than
the Prioris numbers, don't expect to compete on price/performance
    relative to Intel-based NT servers.

See the comparison of a Compaq 5000 to an AlphaServer 1000A 5/300 in
Network Computing to give you some idea what you're up against these
    days.

Also suggest that if you are using SQL 6.5 you make sure you have
    Service Pack 1 installed.

See note 560.40 in RICKS::DECHIPS for a discussion of the lack of
optimization of SQL 6.5 for Alpha without SP1.

Where Do I get the sp1 for SQL Server 6.5?

The only SP I could find on MS home page were for NT and Windows 95.
