Plan A

	Find the Admin Purchasing group that supports your facility or
	group.

	Have them get a price quote. Submit an IPR to your manager
	for signature.

Plan B

	Talk to your manager, get his approval, buy the book, process
	a misc. expense voucher.

    Find a Barnes and Noble, B. Dalton, or other store. Place the order
    and submit a Misc. Procurement Voucher if under $100.00 as long as
    CC Mgr. permission (for reimbursement) is gained first.

4005.4The limit has increasedPOWDML::ISRAELITEThu Jul 27 1995 20:244
    Actually, the amount is $250.00, not $100.

  Not any more. The old on-line DLN catalog is history. There is a new one, but
the U.I. is very cumbersome and you can't determine which Digital libraries
have the book, only that it is in a Digital library somewhere.
  If your library does have the book, you can't sign it out unless you go to
the MRO library. (There are no inter-library loans either.)
  So I agree with the previous replies: Go to a good bookstore, order the book,
and get reimbursed.
4005.6Digital bulk orders some books, at a discountI4GET::HENNINGMon Jul 31 1995 00:5011
    The secretary in our group knows how to convince the internal ordering
    system ("cosmos"? "kronos"? "cronic"?) to order certain technical
    books, at a few dollars less than going through Barnes & Noble.
    Whatever the system is called, I think it's the standard US on-line
    purchasing system.

    Ask whoever has the joy of doing purchase orders in your group to look
    up part number 420209401, if that comes up as "Inside Windows NT"
    you've found another path that leads to books.

4005.7You CAN borrow books from the DLN remotelyMROA::JOBRIENMon Jul 31 1995 14:1219

I take exception to 4005.5 The Digital Library Network still circulates books,
videos, standards, etc. To all Digital Employees. The new catalog is running,
or by calling 297-5040 you can ask for any book and it will be sent to you
through interoffice mail for one month loans with the ability to be renewed if
there are no other requests for it. The Digital Lending library sends books
to employees all over the world, and no one ever has to visit MRO to use this
services. For books that are not owned by the DLN the circulation staff will
do an interlibrary loan and borrow them from anywhere in the country where the
book is available, and them mail the book to you by interoffice mail. It is a
great service, available to all employees.

		To contact the Lending Library:
			Call 297-5040
			Mail MROA::LIBRARY

    I have received several books through the DLN. I can only sing their
    praise from my own experience's with them. It is a very good system in
    my opinion.

    Ditto. I have probabaly a dozen books out at any given time. The only
    problem I have is that since they changed over to their new software, I
    can't get a list of the books I have, but have to request it manually.
4005.10Misc Procurement VocuherDV780::SHAWSFri Aug 04 1995 19:589
    Misc. Procurement Voucher is the easiest way. It is also one of the
    better kept secrets in the company. Your local MCS folks (US field at
    least) probably have the forms, since they use them to make small
    emergency purcahses from local hardware stores, etc.

    Just be sure you have the advance approval/understanding from the
    person who will need to sign the form as approver.

4005.11The most efficient wayJUMP4::JOYPerception is realityMon Aug 07 1995 16:389
    My method is more straightforward....

    Order however is easiest for you and the publisher, send personal check
    or provide personal credit card number. You now own the book, not
    Digital and you can take it with you when you leave (and you will get
    it 10 times faster).

    What about those of us that work from home and/or customer sites? My
    "official" internal mailing address is the Houston, Texas office which
    I visit perhaps every 60 days or so. These days, I spend most of my
    time at customer sites in the New York City area and occasionally get
    to the Digital office at 2 Penn Plaza. Soon, I'll be travelling the
    world, working on a global customer project. The only place that I know
    for certain that I'll be every now and then is at my home address. (Or
    at least my wife will be there to return a book, if need be!) :-)

    Those Digits that sit in an office all day, Monday thru Friday, really
    need to realize that there are a lot of other Digits that work
    god-knows-where, at all sorts of unbelievable times, Sunday thru
    Saturday. A Digital office is a rare sight for many Digital field
    personnel these days!

    Hi Road Warrior,

    I know how ya feel. I'm A tellecommutor and have no office. Some things
    are great but some things byte. We all, however, do what we can to help
    the bottom line.

    Regards,
