3524.0. "Ordering business cards?" by SALEM::HOULE () Wed Nov 23 1994 10:48

    Hi,

I hear that Digital has not stopped business cards yet. Does
anyone know how/where to order them? No one in my site seems to know.

    thanks

Here is what I found out regarding Business Cards forms as well as
some other stationary:

Company stationery ordering info to follow:

The following is the information necessary to order Company Stationery
through the IPA system, use buyer code # 2066:

Print Works

1st page letterhead 18.50/per thousand (min order 1000/ea)
2nd page letterhead 14.95/per thousand (min order 500/ea)
#10 business envelopes 24.95/per thousand (min order 1000/ea)
#10 window envelopes 19.95/per thousand (min order 1000/ea)
business card coupons 10.00/ea (min order 5/ea)

A/L Systems

There are no part numbers to reference, just identify the site you
wish printed on the stationery.

Turnaround time is 10 working days after receipt of purchase order.

Purchasing is developing a better method of ordering. They will communicate
this to us via Reader's Choice when available.

Speaking of which .. why don't they give those who want a badge oriented
forwarding from our internet gateway, such as 113768@digital.com? Then give
us for-life DTN numbers, and we may actually be able to print business cards
that are valid for weeks .. or why not let customers get to us via a touch
tone service driven off our badge number?

What on earth are you talking about. That is far too good
an idea to be implemented. Not only would it save money; it would show
90s "with it" thinking. Please, try to come up with something more
mundane and a liitle less focused, OK?

IN ADDITION TO NOTE .1

The information in Note .1 will get you the coupons to order
the business cards with.

To order the coupons, write an IPA req. to

     Print Works Inc.
     10 Southville Road
     Southboro, MA 01772

The buyer code is 2066 - Sokolowski
The item is "E" for expensed
The Account number is 9101001 (call your finance person for
The Business Suffix before you start the req. as you can't
proceed without it).
The item is Taxable.
The order is for a min. of 5 coupons and the cost for those
5 coupons is $10.00.

The coupons take about a week to arrive.

Hope this helps.

3524.5What is the cost for Business CArds?NETCAD::P_MCCARTHYWed Nov 23 1994 14:1917

    5 coupons cost only $10.00??

That seems rediculously cheap even with a large volume discount we
    must get...

Other than Sales folks, I have always believed that anyone wishing
business cards these days should pay for them themselves... Is there
a process for an employee to pay this fee?? And it MUST cost more
like $10-$20/set of business cards since they are multicolor. Then
again, the basic typesetting is done and all that needs to be done is
filling in different name, dtn etc etc and basic printing costs...

       Interesting info...

Oh yes, heaven forbid any of us Engineers should be allowed to actually
meet a real customer and give them a way to contact us in the future.

I sent a VMSmail asking for a business card order form to
NEST::CSERVICE, and included my: name, location, CC, and mailing
address.

A coupon showed up in about a week. I filled that out, sent it
in, and my cards showed up about two weeks later.

Since I lost my company car, my health insurance rates went up, my
taxes went up, my medical insurance went up, my mortgage payment went
up, my utility payment went up.... and my salary didn't.

How does one go about ordering business cards today? I tried to send
mail to NEST::CSERVICE but no such node exists anymore?

Any bright ideas would be appreciated - I've got a deadline that I'm
not sure I can make but would like to try anyway.

RE: .14

And if you do it that way, you can get your email address on it
and not have to do what I did. (Go to Mailboxes, Etc. and get
a rubber stamp made up. Now that'll look professional)

Yes, I have considered getting some made up with my own $$.

Business card stock (micro-perfed) is available at most office supply
    stores. Some nice designs, even.

Barry:

Print 'em on your color inkjet printer? (I'm *NOT* kidding!)

Or, if you don't mind boring-old-black, on your laser printer.

Card-stock is available for these printers, and I'm pretty sure
you can even get it micro-perfed to tear down to business-card
  size.

The Avery business card stock comes with instructions to use with
Word for Windows to set up a table to get the sizing right, so you
don't have to do as much trial and error configuration.

With the TrueType digital logo, they can look very professional.
It's best to get an "official" business card to model your copy
after, especially if you're going to be handing your card to a
customer/vendor along with a roomful of other DECcies with the
    official versions.

Getting business cards today is not *that* hard, at least not in the
US, provided you have a manager who has (at least) a shared admin
person. You just have to request a busy card form from your manager.
The admin person orders the forms through the IPA system, $10 for 5
forms. You fill out the form and mail it directly to Printworks in
Southboro MA. In about 2 weeks or so, you get your cards.

Printworks is located at 10 Southville Road, SOuthboro MA 01772. I
have IPA access, so I put in my own IPA and got the 5 forms, used
one, and sent the rest up to my manager.

but you need a form to write on and send in to Printworks. You get the
    form 1 of 2 ways.

1st. go to your mail room. Most Digital mail rooms carrie the forms,
you will have to sign for your form and charge it to you cost center.

** note we pre-pay for these do not make a mistake on your from **

2nd. If your mail room does not have these, have your secretary put in
a PO for business card forms. She can call Brigit Sokolowski at DTN
233-9424 and ask Brenda for the order information.

We used to have a Digital person who we would call and they would send
us the forms - but not anymore - a PO is required.
