3084.0. "Looking for a sample PC rollout plan" by DVOPAS::PINHI::Chapiewsky () Thu May 19 1994 18:40

Our office is attemting to win some business at a client who is interested
in having a program manager assist them with their PC rollout, and Desktop
enablement program. My question is, where within Digital might I look to
Identify a methodology, or at least a reusable structured plan, for the
rollout of PC's. I don't believe DPM accomodates this. One would think
that in a company with 80,000+ PC's and terminals, certainly someone would
have a detailed breakdown of the implementation for something like this.
Another possibility is if we assisted a large client with this same sort of
desktop enablement strategy. Thank you, in advance for your assistance.

You may want to check with either the Belgian or French organisations.
They have, with Retail Banking, rollout several projects of over 4,000
workstations spread out over 1,000+ branch offices.

In short, all units were central site staged and tested before rollout
for a true plug in, turn on and go to work installation without the
need for local configuring. The central site did all configuration
management for new units allowing systems managers to know what was in
the field (hardware, software, peripherals) from day 1.

Bernard Martin @BRO can surely direct you to one of the project
    managers involved.

Suggest you might talk to the folks on the Citibank account team, my
recollection is they put together a major deal in that arena recently.
Tom Miller @NYO is the overall honcho, or Les Hutton, or Allen
