2857.0. "US Holiday schedule?" by KMOOSE::CMCCUTCHEON (The Karate Moose) Tue Jan 18 1994 14:12

Is there a US Holiday schedule out yet?

Last year I got pointed to VTX, but I haven't had any luck plodding through
the maze of twisty turny passages to find one this year.

These things seem to be pretty hard to fine lately. A number of people
photocopied my 1993 one...

Thanks. The path's different in VTX from last year.

I would've like the old calendar format I used to get with the days marked,
but will take this format! 8-)

On page 307 in the new 12/93 telephone directory, all holidays are
highlighted. re: -.1, it ain't the 3rd. There are 8 holiday days,:

    	July 5
    	Sept 6
    	Nov 25, 26
    	December 24, 27, 31
    	May 30

For those of you "UP NORTH" you get Patriots day as your location
choice holiday whereas some of us get it as a personal choice. And
then their is you personal holiday that is truly of your choosing.
    That equals 10....

    we need more holiday days.

we work too much days during the year. i suggest to raise the holiday
to 3 months per year instead of the little 10 working days most
    of us get every year.

at this rate we'll burn out in our youth and by the time we get
to retire we'll be all used up.

we need more time for our loved ones.

Re: New Year's

Okay, so I missed the exact date. The point was, New Year's wasn't listed, and
we get it as a holiday. It falls on one side or the other of the calendar year
dividing point, so it is possible (as it was in 1993) for January 1 and
December 31 of the same year to be holidays, and for the following year not to
have a New Year's holiday if you go by strict calendar days off. If you
consider New Year's to be the first holiday of the year, even if you actually
get the day off in the preceding year, it seems to be a lot simpler (at least
it does to me).

And no, I didn't get 1/3/94 off, either...

Gee, European holidays are much simpler. Take Germany in CY94 they have 55
days of holiday.

Within Holland I've 38 days + some left of last year.

You're equating "holidays" to "vacation".

Can you from memory list which dates all public holidays for 1994 fall
in Holland? Or are there no government "mandated" public holidays in
the Netherlands (there are in Germany, for sure ;-)?

2857.24holiday/vacations what is acutally the differenceRUTILE::HOEFSMITOld Sins Cast Long ShadowsWed Jan 19 1994 19:3722
You're equating "holidays" to "vacation".
>>> you're right they are different. There are not that many in Holland,
only when particular things are during the week like xmas/eastern.
But from governement only:
The queens birthday and once every 5 year the 5th of May (when the year
end at 0 or 5)
because that's the end of the 2nd world war

In Germany there are government mandated holidays. A lot. That's why they
have that big amount of 55 days of. They have a lot of bridge days. Holland
doesn't have them.

But normally I don't know when I'm off, I'm almost never in Holland so I
sometimes find out when I get in the office that there is a holiday.

Because DEC is an American based company, we get days off if for instance
xmas is in the weekend.

that all these hours are added up and taken at the end of the year.

The people are working different hrs/per week ranging from 35 to 40. It depends
on the company, the department, the position and sometimes on the individual.
But is's obviously, that the salery you get is also depending on your working
time.

> Did you also count that Digital Germany was closed till the 10th of January

KBO had closed during the timeframe from Christmas to New Year and each
employee had to spent her/his vacation time. And I think, the same is valid
for the rest of Digital Germany.

this was given as Bruchentage (bridege days) not my personal holiday

I (and a few others) found this decision a little strange, considering
