2740.0. "Digital in my country is OK" by BACHUS::WAUTERS (Together we make sense) Wed Oct 27 1993 08:30

    Hi Dear All,

For nearly one year now, I am a casual passive reader of this notes
conference. I have remotely ( I live in Belgium ) seen the depression
hitting this company, mostly in the USA apparently. And it seems to go
    on.

Strangely enough, I feel the need to say that Digital seems to be OK in
my own country and I wonder if this is the case elsewhere.

I am not a financial person, but I know that we made an "outstanding"
result last year. We have received a bonus this month ( 1272$ up to
2541$ depending on your level ).

On a technical point of view, I am still proud to work for Digital : we
are one of the few companies able to provide solutions to nearly any
    kind of project.

The quality of our competitors is also not as good as perceived : one
of our local network guru knows HP quite good and says that they are at
least 2 years behind in the network area ( they do not even have a
Notes conference network in place : can you imagine ? ).

So, are there other countries where the sun is shining today or is
    Belgium the last island ?

    Regards.

    Philippe

    Hi,

I'm in Indonesia, a country in South East Asia. I also see the sun is
shinning and we are still the second biggest computer vendor in term
of business and I think also in technical expertise. As you can expect
the number one is our big brother.

Our CAGR, I believe, is more than 20%. We achieved our number last FY
but I have no information for this FY. This FY we change from
    distributor to be a joint-venture company (50:50).

    Hi,

My country is also doing well. Last FY we managed to keep the revenue
flat (about dfl. 930M = ~ $ 500M), but operational profit increased from
dfl. 77M to dfl. 124M. From the profit we took dfl. 57M, dfl 55M for
    restructuring respectively.
