2326.0. "The New Who's Who at Digital (ala 1993)" by SCAACT::RESENDE (Y R U U?) Wed Jan 13 1993 21:02

Anyone remember the "Who's Who at Digital" that was distributed monthly
through the network up until about July of 1992? It was a text
document identifying the key managers and organizations within the
company. This resource is no longer available.

This information used to be available in hardcopy as "The Internal
Guide to Digital Organizations" and then was attempted in VTX for
awhile but never was current. Neither of these resources are available
    any longer.

I believe there is a need for those who have to do business within
Digital to have access to a reasonably current Digital organization
chart. I am unaware of any such resource that is available to the
Digital community at large. The ideal would be for the corporate to
provide and maintain such a resource (perhaps via VTX), but that
doesn't appear to be a priority at this time.

I'd like to suggest that, in lieu of any other alternative, the
community of users of this conference collaborate on the construction
and maintenace of such a resource here in the conference. I imagine
that the collective intelligence of the community would ensure a
reasonably accurate representation of the corporate structure at any
given time; at least as good as any official source is likely to
    produce.

I am assuming that the availability FOR INTERNAL USE of this sort of
information is not prohibited by any corporate policy. If someone
    knows otherwise, please say so.

I'd be willing to contribute a 1st cut at it, based on recently
published organizational announcements from various organizations and
LiveWire. It's currently about 5 pages, obviously smaller than the
original "Who's Who" document, but it's a start.

Before I post it here for correction and enhancement, I'd like to see
if anyone else feels this volunteer collective effort would be useful
    and proper.

Yes, but how about you post the filespec of where you keep the current draft,
instead?

Let's see, when you come out of the main gate, you turn left. Follow
the road to the first gas station on your left. If the room is locked,
you'll have to ask for a key from the attendant. If you really want to
know who's in their already, I'd suggest knocking on the door.

.1>Yes, but how about you post the filespec of where you keep the current
    .1>draft, instead?

Well, 1st, it's in WinWord on a mobile PC. Not accessible easily. I
was thinking, if there was interest in it, of posting an ASCII version
here, and periodically taking any corrections people posted here and
updating and reposting it. A collective group-think sort of thing.
But I wanted to hold off on posting it until I got a sense that there
was interest in having such a list.

Re .4:

My take on the matter.

* It's definitely information a lot of people need.
* I frankly doubt you'll be able to keep it accurate with volunteer work.
* It may take a lot of your time, so it will have to be a labor of love. But
feel free; I maintain less useful databases than that.
* Please don't dump multi-page documents in here. Post a filespec prominently,
once and leave it at that. Or start your own conference. Or best of all,
learn how to publish a VTX database the way the Vogon News Service does, and
  use that.

It would be extremely useful; I can't tell you how many times
I've wondered just what organization and what names go where.
When you are not in the GMA, this data has to be explicitly
divined.

I'd be glad to create a high level org chart to go with it and put
it in the ArtLibrary.
