2291.0. "METPAY Mailing" by USCTR1::MMCCALLION () Tue Dec 22 1992 17:37

    Is anyone else annoyed that monies were spent for a mailing that
    is reaching people already members of METPAY?

    I am! I can not order pencils but I can receive in-house junk mail?
    What goes on here?

    Who paid for it? METpay or Digital? If METpay that's their business
    not Digital's.

2291.2They probably paid for itPHAROS::FANTOZZITue Dec 22 1992 18:106

    It looks like it is a METPAY deal with it being distributed out by
    the person internally handling METPAY for the company.

    METPAY probably paid for it.

2291.3It is a special relationshipSNAX::PIERPONTWed Dec 23 1992 08:3023
    Ther is a special arrangement between METPAY and DEC. When I signed on
    many years ago, having an insurance company "with in-house offices" was
    discribed as a benifit. There are things that METPAY must live up to,
    ie; minimum percentage of employees participating in the program in
    order to continue to be the one "with in-house offices". DEC supplies
    space and phone service [probably at some costto METPAY] and allows
    checkoff for thoise weekly payments. In turn METPAY has access to
    employees [by verture of being on site], provides a discount, accepts
    weekly payments and, because of the special group risk pool of DEC
    employees, even rebates an amount of the premium each year.

    I wil not debate thier rates [there is already a note for that].

    I personally prefer the weekly payments [and aftter 12 years would hate
    to have to make those large % payments each month/quarter. I can add
    and delete coverages without taking time off from work.

    I don't want to lose "in-house insurance office" ability. METPAY has
    been around ~14 years and there was one before them.

    Howard

    Suggestion: Recycle the mailing and make the paper go farther.
2291.4I'm calm now..USCTR1::MMCCALLIONWed Dec 23 1992 11:525
    Why couldn't METPAY verify current users? Aren't they computerized
    yet?

    I will put the stuff in the recycle bucket although only the memo paper
    is approved for this site.
2291.5This is wastefulTOOK::MORRISONBob M. LKG2-2/BB9 226-7570Wed Dec 23 1992 16:126
  I agree that this mailing is a waste of Digital's resources. Even if Metpay
paid for the printing and envelopes, I doubt they reimbursed all the site mail-
rooms for the labor of handling this stuff. And most of it is NOT recyclable.
  I wouldn't be surprised if Metpay's and Digital's databases are not com-
patible. If so, it would be impossible to delete current Metpay customers from
the mailing list.

    	Surely, with the serious issues facing Digital, this one pales
    	in significance.

2291.7Recycle any old thing, we'll sort it out for youTLE::AMARTINAlan H. MartinThu Dec 24 1992 13:4416
Re .4:

> I will put the stuff in the recycle bucket although only the memo paper

At ZK, Digital pays for a senior member of the cleaning crew to move every
recycled item from the "was recycled" dumpster into either the "can be recycled"
or "can't be recycled" dumpster. So if your site is like mine, recycle all the
looseleaf binders, day-minders, VHS videocassettes, and glossy METPAY circulars
you want: someone is there to compensate for people unclear on the concept.

Re .6:

Maybe the mail rooms reassigned the people who had been in the search for
personal mail.

Dividends vary from state to state. Ask you local Metpay person.

    I called last year and was told we didn't get a dividend payback in
    Colorado. If someone in colorado is getting one (and was only insured
    in colorado all last year), let me know so I can disupute.

    The first year I was here I had both a renters and auto, and didn't
    get one.

    Last year, I only had auto, no homeowner. I'm going to check with
    them again tonight since I've already got three who say they've
    been getting the dividend.

I got a MetPay check. I live in Colorado and have auto insurance only.

It seems from previous replies that those who only have one type of insurance
got a check whereas those who have two types didn't? Seems the wrong way
round...

re: .24, .26

Why? Because as someone else has pointed out, we don't need an entry from
everyone who has received a rebate check.
