2219.0. "Who said Ken Olsen left DEC" by GILNET::BW_LEE () Thu Nov 12 1992 12:18

Ken Olsen is still alive in Digital. I just receive a Certificate
of Recognition with Ken Olsen's signature. I may have to use my
own stamp in order to get the signature of the person really in]
    charge in Digital.

Interesting. We apparently had to experience some recent "delays" in the
Matching Gifts program while waiting for new forms with a message from
Palmer to be made available, because we didn't think it appropriate to
use the old ones with Ken's message, but it's still OK to give recognition
certificates to the troops with Ken's signature. All a matter of priorities,
I guess.

I took an Edu. Services training class for just employees a few weeks
ago, and the certificate was "signed" by KO. Comment by the instructor
was something to the effect of "using up the old stock".

we wouldn't get diplomas because the new ones (with BP's sig.)
    	aren't available yet.

I got three for "Employee Involvement FY90-FY92", signed by Ken and one other
person. The other person was different on each certificate.

I wonder if Bob's going to issue certificates for this too?

Re .0 and .4

The certificates are from the DELTA program for participation. They have been
in the works for several months getting the proper senior management signature
on the right-hand side. We have already gotten permission and have printed
certificates with Bob's name on them and future mailing will use the
new ones.

He hasn't maved in yet. I understand that he does a lot of things that are
not necessarily connected to DEC, speaking engagements, charity stuff etc.

I ran into Ken outside PKO3 a couple of weeks ago. He and his wife
were walking around the pond after a luncheon. He was in good spirits,
and said he's busy in the things previously mentioned (speaking
engagements, charity, and so forth). His wife is a real nice person,
    too.

from his new company, Advanced Modular Solution. Does anyone, who was
at DECus, has any detail ?

Ken was at DECUS, though I didn't hear anything about announcements
from him. I did hear there was debate as to whether or not he should
be required to register (in the end they decided not to).

Why should Ken not have to register?

Every other attendee, whether customer, vendor, DEC employee, or
DECUS muckety-muck has to.

DECUS might decide to "fee-waive" him for some good reason, but I can't
see why unless he was there to man an info booth (for DECUS, not for his
company) or to do some other DECUS organizational-related thing.

I had the opportunity to talk with him at the show. All appearances

re.25:

In the UK, DECUS awards a 'freemanship' to people who have made major
contributions to the DECUS organisation. For example, Geoff Shingles was
awarded a freemanship of DECUS when he retired 18 months ago.
