2088.0. "DEC service? Car purchase info?" by NEMAIL::OHERN () Wed Sep 02 1992 15:33

    I must buy a new car (thinking about the Acura Integra)-- immediately
    -- and I am currently researching prices. A few years ago, a fellow
    employee in DEC went to some organization within DEC to get names of
    dealerships offering lowest prices in the area; she also obtained the
    manufacturers costs on her selected purchase. She had also done her
    homework, but was overwhelmed at the good deal she got from the
    recommended dealership.

    Is this organization still around? Where can I go to get info?

    We have United Buyers Service here in the Washington/Baltimore area
    that usually can provide a list of options and dealer prices and the
    best price for purchase. See your personnel rep.

    I also recommend Mass Buying Power. Several years ago I bought a new car for
    only $500 over dealer's list. Definitely a good buy.

2088.4If you like Ford products ...RIPPLE::NORDLAND_GEWaiting for Perot :^)Wed Sep 02 1992 17:309

    	DEC has a little known purchasing agreement with Ford that allows
    employees to get a discount. I don't know why they don't publicize it
    especially in light of the 'new, improved' car plan. I have known
    people who have used it but I don't know how to find out about it.
    Maybe task your PSA to help?

    Good Luck,

    CHECK WITH THE DIGITAL CREDIT UNION

    I talked with them befor buying a car for my wife. They could order
    certain cars and have them delivered at a local dealership. You pay
    (I think) 100.00 over invoice but must finance the car from DCU.

Last time I checked, Great Road Dodge in Maynard was selling
their line at $49 over invoice and you get any rebates that
are being promoted.

Not to start a rathole, but $xx over invoice doesn't mean much since the
invoice price does not really represent the true cost to the dealer.

    yeah, but $xx over invoice is a nice common point for comparisons.

    There's a place in Cambridge that is sometime $49 over, $0 over, or
    $200 *under* dealer's invoice. You really only care about what price
    *you* get the car for; what profit the dealer makes or doesn't make
    is nobody's concern.
