Recently, I received a memo stating that the U.S. Team is sponsoring an
important FY92 Midyear Business Meeting for all Digital employees, in
early February. According to the memo, company executives from the U.S.
Team will be visiting over 250 locations across the United States to
discuss the state of the business, the recovery plan, and the role of
the employees in growing the U.S. business. It said this set of
distributed U.S. meetings is expressly designed to bring real-time
    information and to address questions.

I have heard that the meeting is mandatory for everyone who reports up
to the US Team. I know that there are people who have been told by
their managers to cancel their training and vacation plans to attend. I
have also heard that a personnel representative will be there to take
minutes. Does anyone know more than this about the upcoming meetings?

This note is entered anonymously, because I'm not comfortable calling
attention to myself right now. Please forgive the paranoia.

    >I have heard that the meeting is mandatory for everyone who reports up

Yes. We have "mandatory" meetings of all kinds on a regular basis.
    Nothing new.

    >I know that there are people who have been told by their managers to
    >cancel their training and vacation plans to attend.

Definitely not here in Minneapolis. I am scheduled for training when
the US Team is here next week and my manager ask me to contact the
training people to see if I can get the messages during my training
    sessions. No Problem.

    >I have also heard that a personnel representative will be there to take

Personnel are always at meetings like this. Do they take minutes? If
they do, are they for other than informational purposes? Who knows?
Who cares? I don't blame anyone for being a little paranoid these
days. It's hurting us because people are afraid to speak up. If the
US Team wants to hear from the front lines, then, be a bit
professional, factual, and a bit tactful, but get your message
    to them.

    Just my opinion.

The US_TEAM memo says, in part...

"We look forward to your participation in these meetings and we
hope you make every effort to join us. However, we would not
expect you to cancel out of any critical customer meeting or
training that you had previously scheduled."

We were told that training during the meeting wouldn't be an issue.
The training facilities would be conducting the meeting for the staff
and students for the 3 hours.

When I got the memo about the meeting I read it and said to myself
"Who are these people?" Then deleted it.

Our Account Group Manager emphasized the importance of "100%
attendance" at the meeting. Personally, I'm looking forward to
hearing any important messages directly from the U.S. Team
representatives, instead of having it filtered 3 or 4 times by local
management. I did not get the impression that the message being
delivered would be negative, rather that it would be to discuss ideas
to help us get back on track. Our attendance is limited to 100 people
per session so more interaction/feedback can be achieved. There are
enough sessions scheduled to cover CWO, OJO, IVO and TUS, with specific
groups named for each and headcount numbers which include everyone at
these sites. I'm not sure when LAO and LAO and the greater Los Angeles
area is scheduling their meetings. I'll be attending on Feb. 5,
    8:30am.

Another hose-job as far as I'm concerned. And a rather expensive one
at that! (Flying teams around to 250 locations?????)

What they should be doing is reading these notes files (if they were
sincerely interested in candid and honest input).

1747.9" egt wellness"EJOVAX::JFARLEYSun Feb 02 1992 14:049
Ken really wants to know what's going on in his company and the only
way to find out is to solicit input from "the grunts" not saying he
will do anything about it though. The latest acronym "get wellness" for
DEC. We were told to attend and be vocal with a certain amount of
tactfulness, it is a shame some of "blood bath" recipients of previous
"right sizings" will be excluded. I am sure they would have some input
to gladly pass on to certain individuals. Reminds me of age cowboy
mentality " well Clem we better shut the corall gate now all them

RE:                     <<< Note 1747.9 by EJOVAX::JFARLEY >>>

If that's the case unless the big boys themselves come out to here what's
going on the this will be a complete waste of time. It hate to be too
negative but the last time I participated in a "Let's-find-out-what's-
really-happening" project for a big VP the results were so watered down
it was meaningless. If the information filters are running the meetings
then they are useless.
