956.0. "Configuration Guidelines?" by DUCAT2::64544::LICAUSE (Al Licause (338-5661)) Thu Apr 25 1991 13:47

Aside from those proposed in the release notes....will we be coming out with
a formal document or perhaps a section in the MCC manuals or the SPD that
indicates what sort of systems and system parameters are recommended for
a particular size network.

More precisely, the customer is interested in knowing how many entities
he can either EXTRACT or RECORD at any one time, given a particular size
VAX and disks.

Any guidance appreciated.

since the amount of space required is directly related to the entity itself,
maybe the access module documentation could include a new section (appendix?)
that gave some estimates for doing things like historical recording and
exporting on the entity class supported by the module?

sounds reasonable, I will pass it on to the documentation team.

We have an internal doc that the DSTEG organization keeps up to
date that measures CPU loading based on polling (alarm
	polling).

We will be working with DSTEG to measure and model the storage
and CPU loading on Vax/VMS currently storing data in RMS, and
Ultrix/Vax and Ultrix/RISC which will store data in Ingress DB.
I'm assuming that the RISC CPU will be significantly faster and
	probably the best Price/Performance platform.

I have recently asked DSTEG people to work with EASYnet network
managers to better understand how their tests match actual
usage. As we feel that the data is acurate and reflects
reality, the data will be made available.
