6041.0. "DECmcc Support Level Training Needed" by CUJO::BROWN (Dave Brown) Wed Jul 06 1994 19:10

    	Is there any way these days for an individual to receive support
    level training on MCC? I support a customer who heavily uses MCC and so
    far, my support of them has been less than stellar. We continually run
    into many issues and problems many of which are beyond my knowledge,
    the customer's knowledge and beyond the scope of the documentation.

    	If anyone has any ideas on how I could rapidly come up to speed as
    an MCC support individual, I'd appreciate the input.

    	Thanks,

    	Dave

6041.1I'd volunteer, but who pays?BIKINI::KRAUSECSC Network Management/HubsThu Jul 07 1994 12:2420
Well, I don't know if edu - pardon, Learning Services - ever implemented
the MCC support training (called 'internals' or some such). You might
just ask...

I get more and more requests like yours. MCC is alive and used heavily
by quite a few customers. On the other hand, a lot of DEC people with
MCC experience are laid off and the remaining staff now must support MCC
with little knowledge and no training.

I'd volunteer to give a one-week MCC support training if somebody would
organize it. You'd have to pay for it, of course - at least by cross
charge.

The last MCC training I gave was in July 1992 (for V1.2). The handouts
have collected some dust but the contents is not that outdated. I even
found the PS files on BIKINI::MCC_DISK:[SLIDES.TRNG12]. You may get a
lot of useful info from them, but it's not the whole story. This
training was meant to be an update for MCC specialists...

I agree with .0, I am finding myself in much the same position for the reasons
outlined by Robert.

It would be nice to get training, who knows, with enough prospective candidates
the cost might not be too high if it was shared.

I hope the travel implications won't be prohibitive though, we are now talking
of people from USA, UK and Germany.

Dave,
	A more complete answer to my mail that I want to share with the
	MCC notes readers

	1. The DEcmcc Maintenance Group in VBO has no resources available to
	organize any support training at the moment

	2. There is a training availble that every one who start with
	DECmcc  should do:
	EMA & USER Training it is available in most EDU that is a must
		1 -EY-E934E : EMA and DECmcc : Technical Overview
		    2 days

		2- Ey-I578E : EMA and DECmcc : Practical Use and tips
                   3 day

	Potential teachers: Eduardo Berreira in VBO or
	 In Paris ( EVO ) I know Pierre Gonzalez

	3. To get a training on MCC Module Management programing is the next
	   step:

	Potential teachers: Eduardo Berreira in VBO or
	Nils BERGGREN at ( MRGATE::"STKMTS::MRGATE::STKHLM::BERGGREN" )

	4. The Temip group has organised some trainings concerning their
	product which could help you to understand the Telecom aspect of
	the product
	( Contact Marc Flauw : taec::flauw ).

	We are very interested in having knowledgeable engineers on DECmcc
	unfortunately resources are missing.

Regards
	Laurent
