238.0. "CMIP run-time?" by COOKIE::KITTELL (Richard - Architected Info Mgmt) Mon Aug 06 1990 21:15

For having AMs talk to non-network (non-NICE protocol) entities, the common
wisdom seems to be that CMIP is the way to go.

No doubt someone has written some subroutines to layer CMIP encode/decode
on top of the MCC_DA support.

Can I get a copy/pointer of them?

Thanks.

Thanks.

    Hello,

    I have a customer who is also investigating the possibility of using
    CMIP as the protocol to manage his entites, so I was rather looking
    forward to an answer on this one. Are there any plans to document
    the interface to the CMIP Encode/decode routines ?

    Thanks,

    Philippe.

If the MCC routines aren't documented, there are other sources of CMIP code
within DEC, in particular there's a common agent and appropriate corresponding
director side code that is available. Contact Brian Handspicker (VINES::BD)
for details.

	Sorry this was handled off-line. The MCC CMIP routines are available
for anybody in DEC who wants them. They won't be openly available, you'll have
to ask. Contact Arun Sankar (OMKAR::SANKAR) for access to the routines.

	These are the same routines mentioned by Mark in Re.3. You can cut
out the middle-man, Brian, and contact Arun, the developer, directly.

	Sorry for the confusion.

    It is our intention to document, and hence support, the appropriate
    set of CMIP routines in a future version of the SRM, and hence
    they will then become publicly available as well.

	Does anyone know if the CMIP specification document is
	on-line anywhere within DEC? The EMA General Description
	document refers to:

	Information Processing - Open Systems Interconnection -
	Management Information Protocol, ISO/IEC DIS 9596-2.

The DNA CMIP document is on-line at
	FILES::NET$ARCH:[FieldTest]CMIP_*.doc
I forget the full spec.

Access is restricted to members of the DRG interest list. Contact Jody Benson to
learn how (and if) you can gain access (ERLANG::JODY).

The ISO spec is not on line. LKG's library has a copy, you can order it
through various standards bodies. It is now an IS (International Standard).
