5557.0. "DECmcc V1.3 (200) on ULTRIX V4.3a?" by GRANPA::AMEISHEID () Wed Sep 01 1993 15:13

    Despite the recent announcement about POLYCENTER NetView, I need to
    know if DECmcc V1.3 (200) runs on ULTRIX V4.3a? I did not find any other
    note to answer this question.

    Also, are there any "gotchas" running DECmcc V1.3 on ULTRIX V4.3,
    managing other ULTRIX V4.3a workstations?

    Thanks.

5557.1good so farTOOK::MINTZErik MintzWed Sep 01 1993 17:169
We have done only sketchy testing on V4.3a, but have seen no
problems so far. More thorough testing in progress, and an official
support statement will follow the completion of that work.

If you want to run DECmcc on V4.3 and query V4.3a systems using SNMP,
you should not see any problems.

5557.2confused about upgrading?GRANPA::AMEISHEIDWed Sep 01 1993 17:578
    Good. Any idea as to WHEN this announcement will be ready - this may
    change how soon I do an operating system install (ULTRIX V4.3 or 4.3a)?

    Also, I recall that doing OS upgrades can be "involved" on systems that
    have DECmcc installed on them - am I incorrect in this rememberance
    (and hopefully just confusing it with something else!)?

    Thanks.

    we are currently writing a set of thorough regression tests that
    should help us more quickly validate new hardware.

    I know that isn't quite the answer you were looking for, but
    it lets you know we are working on it.

5557.4Will it run on the MIPS R4000?BAHTAT::LZOPCB::bondThu Oct 07 1993 14:389
Ultrix V4.3a supports the MIPS R4000 chip.

Will the new version of DECmcc for 4.3a run on R4000 systems?

(Please answer yes! - my customer is desperate for more power from his
DECstation 5000/240 running DECmcc. He has the chip upgrade sitting in a
carboard box on his desk and would like to put it in a warmer place.)

5557.5It works !TAEC::LAVILLATFri Oct 08 1993 06:5815
 Chris,

  MCC V1.3 runs correctly on ULTRIX 4.3A and R4000 machines.

  We (TeMIP) have done full regression tests on DS 5260 with no problem.

  The only thing to take care is the SEMMAP value in /sys/h/sem.h that has
  to be increased to 30.

  We did not test all MCC, but can at least say that POLYCENTER 200 functions
  run correctly.

  Regards.

  Pierre.
5557.6Works - Yes; But Supported?BAHTAT::BONDFri Oct 08 1993 12:5214
    Hi Pierre,

    The answer 'It works' is great news! But the real answer I need is
    'Yes it is supported'. At the moment, my customer, BT, has a number of
    outstanding CLDs against DECmcc and switching to an unsupported
    combination of software is not the best way of getting those problems
    addressed!

    So thanks 'TeMIP', but what is the official 'DECmcc' answer. If there
    is no decision yet, please can you indicate when we might expect to
    hear something.

    Thankyou.

5557.7TeMIP is supportedTAEC::LAVILLATFri Oct 08 1993 15:1011
  Hum,...

  The only thing I can say is that TeMIP is supported on ULTRIX V4.3A and
  R4000 machines.

  So, if you want support, sell them TeMIP...

  Regards.

  Pierre.
