553.0. "SNMP agreement ?" by MARS03::THOMAS () Thu Dec 13 1990 16:01

	My customer asks if our product (SNMP A.M.) has been certified about its
SNMP management.

	Do you know if there is any official test to do that ?

	If any, has our product been certified through this official process ?

	Regards

	Bernard

	To my knowledge, there is no certification process for SNMP.
	Is the customer really asking "Does the SNMP AM interoperate with
	other vendors' SNMP agents?" I personally have used the AM to
	communicate with cisco, Proteon, Wellfleet, Vitalink, Ultrix V4, and
	IP Portal V1.1 SNMP agents. The AM has been rigorously tested
	against Ultrix, Portal, and Wellfleet.

553.2turning the questionTOOK::MATTHEWSTue Jan 29 1991 18:309
    I will turn the question around. What does certification mean in the
    SNMP space. The normal thing is to go to a trade show such as Interop
    and demonstrate that you can do some shows of various tcp attributes.
    There are a host of opportunities to do ad-hoc interoperability testing
    but as far as I know there is NO formal testing suite or
    interoperability certification. It seems to be quite foreign to the
    SNMP/Internet community to do this sort of thing.

553.3editable mib reduces need for certificationPRUNES::GASSMANWed Jan 30 1991 01:305
    The fluid way which SNMP is adopted and modified is why a successful
    SNMP AM will have the ability to edit the MIB. Many things will change
    from the time it's tested inhouse till the time it ships.
