4706.0. "Exception: Invalid Memory address (dce/ th)?" by SKULLY::COMPTON (Dorie) Wed Mar 17 1993 10:33

Can you post a pointer or some guidelines as to what I should check when
DECmcc aborts with an Exception: Invalid memory address (dce /th )?

It appears to happen after I have been running with Notificiations Enabled
for awhile, but haven't isolated it yet. (ULTRIX 4.3 SSB BMS 1.2.3)

		Thanks,
                 Dorie

If this is your own application/module then why not just run dbx on it?
If it is happening within an MCC module, then please qar it.

Generally, though, I've seen Invalid Memory address when there is a
"bus error" for example, when addressing a null pointer.
Unfortunately, there are no guidelines available (that I've seen
    anyway) for DCE exceptions.

    Good Luck,
    -Matt.
4706.2same error on BMS v1.3BACHUS::FOLENSFri Apr 16 1993 13:4719
I'm having the same error after upgrade of BMS v1.2 to v1.3.
When I try to add an entity via the iconic map or I try to view
some info about an entity the iconic map disappears and in the
window where I started mcc I get the following messages:

    tembo> mcc_iconic_map&
    [1] 11523
tembo> Exception: Invalid memory address (dce / thd)

[1] IOT trap mcc_iconic_map (core dumped)

I'm running BMS on a DECstation 5000-240 with 48Mb of memory and a
    swap space of 192768kb.
I need to mention that I open the iconic map on another X-terminal.
Via the fcl I have no problems to use mcc.

    Help, I'm on a customer's site now (and it's 22:30!). I've installed
the director (1.3) and I'm getting exactly the same error message as
detailed previously in this topi whilst trying to open (or create) a
domain from within the IM. Can anyone help please? I can't stress the
    urgency enough.

    Cheers,

As a test, I temporarily installed BMS 1.3.0, removed the director
and now do not get the same problems. I'm using the very latest CDs for
both MCC variations. Is there perhaps a problem with the CDs? I still
need a fix for the director problem, as I'm going to have to remove BMS
shortly (unless I can pursuade the customer to buy it).

I am getting the same error displaying to a VMS system from a DECStation
5000 when creating a new icon or expanding a notification... Any words of
advice?

Thanks
