3203.0. "TSAM field test questionare" by TOOK::FONSECA (I heard it through the Grapevine...) Wed Jun 17 1992 21:06

If you have installed TSAM, this is a reminder that it is now time
to let me know how TSAM is working for you. You will find the TSAM field test
questionare as the first reply to this note, please extract it and mail it to
me.

I know you are busy, but here is the pay-off for getting software before
everyone else. I'm hoping the reason 9 out of 10 sites haven't replied
to my first mailing is because their SYSTEM accounts don't forward to the
right person, or because TSAM has been problem free. (In that case
please just do a reply/author with the subject 'TSAM works for me'.)
I also want to thank the IFT sites who have found problems and have worked
with me while we tried to figure out the solution.

In particular, I want to thank Dave McCallum, Brian Jones, and Joe Atterberry,
among others. They have all helped highlight important issues during test.
Both Dave and Brian will have important bugs fixed for their sites for V1.0.
Even the slightest problem is easier to fix now before people who pay money
for this product have to call Digital.

Thanks,

Dave Fonseca

		TSAM Field test questionnaire

1) How did the TSAM installation go? (Yes, I too wish it were faster!)

2) Did you have any problems registering terminal servers? Please describe.

3) Any other problems while using TSAM? Suggestions?

4) Did you use the documentation?

   On-line help?

Did the documentation get you to where you wanted to go? Comments?

5) How many terminal servers have you registered so far? (Rough Estimates only)
How many terminal servers are you currently responsible for at your site?

	Category	( TSAM / Site)

	Foreign terminal servers:
	DS90L:
	DS90TL:
	DS100:
	DS200:
	DS250:
	DS300:
	DS500:
	DS700:
	MS100:
	MS300:

	TOTAL:

6) Have you used TSAM to show or modify any of the newer multi-protocol
features available on the DS90TL, DS300 or DS700 terminal servers?
   (Telnet, Internet, SLIP etc.)

7) Have you used any of the utilities which come with TSAM?
   ie GETCHAR, PASTHRU, MCC_TSM_CONVERT. Comments?

	GETCHAR:

	PASTHRU:

	MCC_TSM_CONVERT:

8) Have you set up any alarms on terminal server attributes?
   How many,
   and what were their frequency?
   What did you alarm on?
   Comments?

9) If you don't use alarms now, do you plan on using them in the future?

10) Does or will your site have more than one user of TSAM?
Does your site use the Station AM, or ELMS?

12) Do you currently use TSM?
Do you plan to migrate 100% to TSAM, or do you plan to use both tools?
What are your feelings about the two products?

13) If you have 3rd party terminal servers on your site,
are they manageable through SNMP or methods other than TSAM? (In one year?)
When you are logged in to one of these servers do you ever forget what
model of server you are on because the screens are so similar?

12) Any other comments?

13) Is TSAM ready for our customers?

14) What features and changes do you want for the next version of TSAM?

15) What model of VAX is TSAM running on at your site?

Hi,

When you do for example a SHOW COUNTERS for a port then it shows the counters
but the clock stays there and you have first to click on stop.

3203.3Probable solution/answerTOOK::FONSECAI heard it through the Grapevine...Fri Jun 26 1992 18:5419
It sounds like you've run in to a bug I found after TSAM T1.2.7 was
released. The symptom is operations to a specific terminal server
will hang (not just show counters for that port but any set or show command
against that server) while identical operations against another server
will still work. If you exit out of the process (either back to Dollar
sign for FCL, or exit out of Iconic Map) and then get back in, you
can again operate against the hang-causing terminal server.

Typically TSAM gets in this state through several paths: selecting
Stop, or pressing Ctrl/Y before a TSAM operation completes; or doing
a show command or double click on an entity class of which there are
no instances; or any command which ended up not completely 'sucessfully'
such as getting an error message etc.

Let me know if this does not solve your problem, or if I have misunderstood your
problem.

Thanks,
Dave
