URGENT QUESTION FOR A CUSTOMER DEMO

We are using DECmcc/BMS V1.2.3 

In the creation of a Notify request, one of the parameter is the "expand to 
subdomain" (a button in the Iconic Map PM).

The explanations in the Notification Services Uses Manual state that this allow
to expand the notification to all dynamic subdomains... what does it exactly 
mean and what is it used for ?

On the other I tried the following experiment from the Iconic Map PM.

- Notification is automatically enable when domains are open (Customization)
- Notification Window is opend
- I have a NODE4 entity in a domain which has no child domain
- 1) If I created the Notify Request:
        NOTIFY DOMAIN <curently opened domain> -
         ENTITY LIST = NODE4 <node4 entity> -
         EVENT = COUNTERS ZEROED -
         EXPAND = TRUE
    When I "zero" the corresponding node4 entity, I receive *ONE* configuration
    event (up arrow) in the Notification Window.
- 2) If I created the Notify Request:
        NOTIFY DOMAIN <curently opened domain> -
         ENTITY LIST = NODE4 <node4 entity> -
         EVENT = COUNTERS ZEROED -
         EXPAND = FALSE
        (the previously created Notify request being disabled)
    When I "zero" the corresponding node4 entity, I receive *TWO* configuration
    events (up arrow) in the Notification Window.

Could you explain why I receive two events in the second case ?

Hi,

Expand=TRUE is supposed to take the notify request
that you enter and EXPAND it to all dynamic subdomains
of the specified domain.

For example, assume the following domain hierarchy:

		d1
	       /  \
	     d2    d3
	    /  \    \
	  d4    d5   d6

If you entered the following:

notify domain d1 entity list = (node4 *), -
	event = "any config event",
	expand = TRUE

That notify request would apply to all node4 entities
in domains d1,d2,d3,d4,d5 and d6.

Conversely, the following:

notify domain d1 entity list = (node4 *), -
	event = "any config event",
	expand = FALSE

*should* only apply to node4 entities in domain d1.
Expand = TRUE is the default behavior.

I have no idea why you are seeing two notifications.
You shouldn't be, i.e. there is a BUG somewhere.
I have QAR'd this as QAR 149 in the MCC013_EXT databse
(see note 7 in this conference).

My suggestion would be to simply use the default, EXPAND=TRUE,
since there are no children domain anyway and this results in
the correct behavior.

nature of domain members and with the Notify expansions...

    i believe this problem has been fixed in V1.3.
    
    as Pete mentioned, the work around is not to specify EXPAND=FALSE if 
    it does not apply.
