2945.0. "How to save MIR/ALARMS/EXPORT during upgrade?" by ZPOVC::RAMARAJ () Wed May 06 1992 16:07

    I'm currently using the 1.2.7 FT version on VMS and ULTRIX.

    I have registered alot of node4, snmp, bridges, fddi, conc,
    terminal servers, ethernet and alot of entities. I also have alot alarms
    and exporting for them too.

    How can I save all the MIRs, exportings, alarms etc for all entities
    that I currently have, when I upgrade to another FT version or the SSB
    version.

    Is there a way to save the relevant file and use them after an upgrade?
    I'm sure alot of folks out there would need such an utility.

    Thank in advance for any hints or help

  Raj,

  For Alarms you can use the Extract Rules Tool, which will extract all of
  the Alarm Rules from the Alarms MIR .. and create a script to reload the
  MIR at a later time.

	   VMS:  run sys$system:mcc_alarms_extract_rules
	Ultrix:  mcc_alarms_extract_rules

Do you really have to do this before upgrading??? Not a user-friendly feature.

2945.3Not too bad on VMS.TOOK::MINTZErik Mintz, DECmcc Development, dtn 226-5033Wed May 13 1992 01:546
On VMS, I think the installation procedure will do the extract rules for you.

On ULTRIX, which is essentially a V1 product for us, there is really no
way. The MIR file formats changed during field test, so all of the
MIRs should be removed prior to upgrade from T1.2.4 to anything.
