5519.0. "VIEW rule/member option not available ! " by GIDDAY::CHONG (Andrew Chong - Sydney CSC ) Mon Aug 23 1993 05:13

A customer has bought mcc director and elm am. The elm am comes with
alarms fm. However, on the iconic map, when click on File menu, VIEW (rule
or member) is missing from the list. What this means is that he cannot create
rules from the iconic map. Creating rules from the FCL works fine.

Any reason why the VIEW rule/member option doesn't show up ?

He is using Excursions to display the map. MCC director V1.2.3.

regards,
Andrew

5519.1 response please !GIDDAY::CHONGAndrew Chong - Sydney CSC Wed Aug 25 1993 01:0020

I am running into a customer satisfaction issue here. can someone
please respond to the base note.

Further to .0 , I have installed the V1.2 director and ELM_AM and
verified that indeed the VIEW rule/member option isn't available
on the iconic map. To get VIEW rule/member I have to install the
Notification package, is this correct ? Is this intended behaviour,
given that the ELM_AM includes alarms FM ? The customer is very
unhappy that he cannot create rules from the iconic map. Part of
the reason for the dissatisfaction is due to sales issues which I
    won't go into.

The customer will eventually buy the notification package. But he is
short of funds at the moment and short on diskspace.

Please help ! I only need explaination and confirmation of the observed
behaviour. And ofcourse any workaround/suggestions are welcome.

Andrew does the spd not give you the information you need ??

There aren't many director only sites none that I have experienced.
Because of problems with director only being used when you upgrade
to V1.3 you may like to encourage the use of BMS.

Please mail me or phone me for further details.

This may be a bit to technical but here goes...

The iconic map will look in the dictionary for the following
    entity: MCC ICONICMAP APPLICATION NOTIFICATION_PM.

If it doesn't find this it assumes the director kit is installed,
hence there isn't any notification available. The Notification
package, when installed, updates the dictionary to contain this.
In addition to this it puts the file mcc_notification_fm.exe
    in the appropriate directory.

Please note that it is the combination of the notification fm AND
alarms that enables the iconic map to support the rule view.

    re .3

    Jim,

Thats exactly the explaination I needed. Thanks very much.

    re .2

    gary,

No the SPD isn't clear at all , I have read it several times but
could not find the answer .

The reason the customer didnot but BMS package is mainly cost
related. He is hoping to even getby without the notification package.
That's why I need to know if notification package is a definate must
    to support rule view.
