3331.0. "DNS-E-INVALIDARGUMENT after DNS$SHARE patch" by GIDDAY::CHONG (Andrew Chong - Sydney CSC ) Thu Jul 09 1992 05:21

VMS V5.5
DECMCC T1.2.7
DNS client only

I have applied the DNS$SHARE patch (from MCC notes #2471.4).
Before the patch , the system would experience SSRVEXCEPT exception bugcheck
whenever I register a SNMP entity in DECmcc.
The instruction at the crash PC is MOVZWL 08(R2),R1

After the patch is applied , the system doesn't crash anymore but I get
" MCC Routine Error = %DNS-E-INVALIDARGUMENT, Invalid argument"

example:

MCC> register snmp .Adelaide.Metro.Magill.MAGLH1 synon maglh1 , -
_MCC> address 159.13.136.254, in domain magl

SNMP ETSA_SERVICES_NS:.Adelaide.Metro.Magill.MAGLH1
AT  9-JUL-1992 14:29:57

The requested operation cannot be completed
                      MCC Routine Error = %DNS-E-INVALIDARGUMENT, Invalid
                                          argument

MCC> show snmp maglh1
Using default ALL IDENTIFIERS

SNMP maglh1
AT  9-JUL-1992 14:32:16 Identifiers

Examination of attributes shows:
                                Address = 159.13.136.254
                                   Name = maglh1
