3236.0. "U: ** Important message for FDDI AM users **" by QUIVER::HAROKOPUS () Tue Jun 23 1992 14:36

I know the DECmcc SSB kits haven't been officially announced, but this
note requires action by FDDI AM field test users before installation of
the DECmcc V1.2 SSB kit.

Regards,

Bob

Subject: ****Important Notice for FDDI AM Field Test Users****

In order to comply with EMA, the FDDI global entity has
been changed to FDDI-STATION. This change will require FDDI AM
field test users to re-register their FDDI devices in DECmcc V1.2.
If you have not used the FDDI AM or FDDI FM then this change will not affect
you.

This change will not affect the operation or functions of the FDDI AM.
HOWEVER, IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THE FDDI AM USERS TAKE THE FOLLOWING
ACTIONS BEFORE INSTALLING DECMCC V1.2:

With your field test version of DECmcc:

1) Save a list of your registered FDDI entities:

mcc>dir fddi *, to file=fddi.txt

2) Deregister all FDDI entities

mcc>deregister fddi *

3) If you are using DNS you need to create the back-translation table
for the FDDI-STATION entity:

    .MCC_FDDI-STATION_BACKTRANSLATION.

Refer to Chapter 7, "Creating DNS Directories Required for DECmcc",
in DECmcc Planning and Installation for VMS, for details.

4) After DECmcc and ELM V1.2 are installed you can re-register
all of the FDDI stations from the list generated in step 1.
You can also use the FDDI FM to map and autoregister the devices
on your FDDI rings.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

Bob Harokopus
