2490.0. "DECmcc under Motif?" by HANEY::HORRIGAN () Wed Mar 04 1992 23:36

    I've read a few notes in this conference on Motif. Just to be clear:

    Is Digital planning to migrate both the VMS and Ultrix versions of
    DECmcc from DECwindows to Motif?

    If so, when?

    Regards, Chris H.

2490.1Motif migration is underway for both Ultrix and VMS.TOOK::A_MOOREThu Mar 05 1992 12:055
Motif migration very aggresively underway for both Ultrix and VMS. They probably
will not arrive at same moment. Ultrix would be first.

It involves the forging of two operatings systems, DECthreads, MOTIF, GOBE,
and parallel DECmcc development into one seamless piece.

This, of course, should be a very simple matter for someone with Al's vast
skills!!!

    Any idea when the field could expect a MOTIF product on VMS? On Ultrix
    or OSF/1?

2490.9MOTIF problem with DECterm windows disappearing.CUJO::HILLDan Hill-Net.Mgt.-Customer ResidentTue Mar 10 1992 04:0413
    Our group has been working with engineering to resolve a quite nasty
    problem in Motif V1.1 under VMS V5.5. The problem involves DECterm
    windows disappearing when doing numerous window manipulations on a
    heavily used workstation.

    I have encountered it 3 times, while others have seen it much more
    often. The latest patches were installed today. Let me know via
    VAXmail (CUJO::HILL) if anyone is interested.

    By the way, this is the only problem I have noticed with DECmcc and
    MOTIF.

2490.10Same problem with DECwindows...DFLAT::PLOUFFEJerryTue Mar 10 1992 12:4517
Dan:

  I have had the same problem with DECterm windows disappearing (when doing
  numerous window manipulations on a heavily used workstation) under DECwindows.

  Do you know of any patch for DECwindows? Know anyone I could contact?

  My group will be moving to VMS 5.5 and Motif in 1-2 months, so this is not
  a critical issue, but, if there is a patch and it's easy to install...

  Anyway, could I ask you to post the Motif patch in this conference. I
  believe that a number of DECmcc development systems will eventually need this
  patch.

  Thanks in advance...

                                                                       - Jerry
2490.11Motif development group infoCUJO::HILLDan Hill-Net.Mgt.-Customer ResidentThu Mar 12 1992 04:0019
    The bug in Motif V1.0 that resulted in DECterms being lost was resolved
    with the patching of the DECW$XTSHR.EXE image. This bug was present in
    Motif EFT 1.1, but the new image fixed it.

    However there are a number of other bugs still being worked. These are
    in the EFT 1.1 version and involve the abortion of the window manager
    altogether (has happened to me three times). The window manager must
    be restarted from scratch.

    Additionally, one member of our group found that he could cause an
    ACCVIO which resulted in the DECterm windows disappearing. This
    happened when doing graphics on a heavily loaded system. This was
    found today, so the DECterm bug is still present in another area.

    Please contact Dave Doucette (I do not have a mail address, so please
    use ELF) if you have any questions or concerns. He is involved with
    Motif development.

2490.12Alt F4 not niceDPDMAI::JONESDSThu Mar 12 1992 15:248
    I would like to see the Motif window close (Alt F4) supported a little
    better. The DECplan folks using alot of the same pieces seem to have
    this figured out. For example: When you Close the navigate window,
    the IMPM exits as well, the DECplan folks (Lorraine Ricard D381.2609 is
    eng. mgr.) have fixed this (and other instances) to just close the
    navigate window.

2490.13Problems with Motif 1.0A tooANDRIS::putninsHands across the BalticsThu Mar 12 1992 20:495
I'm running DECmcc T.1.2.4 (not BL15) on VMS 5.5 with Motif 1.0A, and I
often have to restart the Motif Window Manager after it exits. This is
usually preceeded by the IMPM reporting a number of X toolkit errors.

2490.14HOT KEY support?ARRODS::GILLJJohn, DTN 847-5849Fri Mar 13 1992 13:1716

    As I understand it MOTIF supports the use of 'HOT KEYS'.

    I am currently compiling a bid for a customer who wants to be able
    to define their own HOT KEYS (e.g. CNTRL/X executes
    my_decmcc_commands).

    Can we (or do we hope to) offer this functionality?

    If so, will it be supported in both Iconic Map and FCL interfaces?

    Customers wan everything!

2490.15Closing/Iconizing Motif windows abort DECmccTAVIS::ORNAWed Jul 29 1992 14:119
    I'm running DECmcc T.1.2.7 under Motif 1.1.3 on an ULTRIX DECstation.
    When I want to iconize the Toolbox, for example, DECmcc aborts.
    It also happens when I want to close the Toolbox/Navigation,..
    window using the close option from the up-left Motif menu.

    Is it a bug, does it happen under DECwindows also?

    Orna.

2490.16Upgrade.TOOK::BMURRAYThu Jul 30 1992 17:0222

    Orna,

    It looks like you have a fairly old baselevel. The first thing I would
    do is install the lastest V1.2.0 as it fixes many bugs existing in
    T1.2.7.

    There was a workaround for users who were running under the OSF/Motif
    window manager instead of the DECwindows XUI window manager. It was
    the addition of some Mwm resources to the resource file to disable
    the close from the Mwm system menu. Here are the resources:

    Mwm*MCCclass*clientFunctions:           -Close
    Mwm*shell_class*clientFunctions:        -Close
    Mwm*mcc_graph_resource*clientFunctions: -Close
