2418.0. "Alarm on ifOperStatus" by ICS::WOODCOCK () Tue Feb 25 1992 18:44

Hi,

I can't seem to get my SNMP icon to change color at all. I have a rule
with the expression=snmp toontown inter 3 ifOperStatus <> up. When I enable
the rule it fires but the SNMP icon does not change, but... the domain it is
in does change when I navigate up. There is an error in the window which
brings up the IMPM session:

unable to get alternate identifier for alarm SNMP toontown Interface 3. Using p
rimary identifier

I just noticed a . after Interface 3 above. Could this be a parsing problem
or have I missed something in the setup???

thanks for any info,
brad...

I have the same problem. It is strange, because for one of my SNMP
nodes, the alarm works, but using the same alarm rule on another SNMP
node in the same domain, it does not work. My notification window tells
me all is ok, and my alarm fired procedure does work, but no icon
colour change and the same error message as in .0 occurs in the window
that brings up the IMPM. Very strange !

    Cheers,
    Louis

do you see the event show up in the notification window? and
if it does what does it say for the entity name?

 Hello,

Good question, it leads right to the problem/answer.

The object is registered as SNMP .TOONTOWN. The rule was created with
"toontown" as the SNMP entity. I thought this would work because SHOW
commands work, wrong. When the alarm fires the entity was simply toontown. So
I deleted the original rule and recreated it as ".TOONTOWN". When this
rule fired it also did not change color but I noticed all other rules
firing in the window also showed the NS. So I again recreated the rule
with the entity as "LUVBOT_NS:.TOONTOWN". This worked but I'd call it a
bug, right??. Has this been QARed???

kind regards,
brad...

2418.4also affects interfaces lines drawnICS::WOODCOCKThu Mar 26 1992 18:5111
Hi again,

FWIW, I also couldn't figure out how to put a LINE on the map which represented
an SNMP interface. I kept getting 'unregistered entity' when I drew the line.
Going back and editting .TOONTOWN (which MCC placed there to begin with) to
LUVBOT_NS:.TOONTOWN also solved this problem. So this little gotcha seems to
show up in multiple places.

best regards,
