2100.0. "Competitive info on HP OpenV wrt DME pls" by CLARID::PATEL (We'll get it right on the night) Tue Jan 14 1992 12:09

This entry is for the request of competitive information in relation
to EMA/DECmcc and HP's Open View with respect to OSF/DME.

In an on going bid with a large account we are beaning "basically"
forced to take the back seat against HP's Open View.

The problem I have is that the customer believes that HP's Open View is
much closer to OSF/DME than the AMMO/MCC solution.

The customer is basically pointing us to the trade press for DME and (you
guessed it) HP is really playing up the DME selections.

I would appreciate any trade/internal/competitive information in this
are which will help me to place the AMMO/DECmcc picture in better light.
Also any commitments from Digital in terms of migration of MCC to OSF
    based platforms etc.

I have the NaC responses to the DME document and the DME recommendations
    doc itself.

    Amrit

Make sure if you are looking at the DME rational document, it's the
updated one and not the first edition. They really slammed MCC - but
revised it based on Digital's complaint. HP will probably show the
first version. The rational document (found elsewhere in this notes
file and in the DNT notes file) is Digital's response to the DME.
I've placed an additional document my public directory on:
    	enuf::$1$dua3:[gassman.public]dmeimsym.ps
It's based on Gary Baer's presentation and asks some questions about
how successful DME will be if they go their current route.

One thing to be very aware of when dealing with HP - they often use the
bait and switch approach - talking about their architected openview
management server, and bidding their node manager - sort of like
talking about EMA and bidding MSU.

If you need literature about HP, you can get it from their FAX service.
From your fax, call (208)344-4809 in telephone mode. Select the ID of
the literature you want, then hit the start/copy switch on your fax.
9979 gets you an index of HP computer systems & networking, and there
are eight documents on the Open View development environment and
    applications.
