1306.0. "DECmcc testing with VMS V5.4-3" by CUJO::HILL () Fri Aug 02 1991 17:11

    What are the plans for testing & validating DECmcc V1.x and access
    modules with future VMS releases? I am currently most interested in
    VMS V5.4-3, which will be hitting the streets soon.

    Thanks,
    Dan

    While you are at it, what about testing/validation with DECwindows V3.
    This is a hot item for me. I like Motif and would prefer to use it.
    It is a long story, but at one time we ran Motif (not DECwindows V3)
    and DECmcc seemed to work fine. Somewhere along the line we "nailed"
    the Motif window manager and had to go back to DECwindows.

    I have heard some horror stories about DECmcc not working with
    DECwindows/Motif, hence my question about when validation & testing
    will be done.

	re .1 & .2

	I love the way people hear the "horror stories" (which I didn't
	hear about), but not the "success stories".

1306.5Clarification; DECmcc successesCUJO::HILLTue Aug 13 1991 19:5328
    John,
    	I have unintentionally struck a nerve. Allow me to re-phrase.

    I ran DECmcc V1.0 using the mwm under VMS V5.3-2. It worked very
    nicely. Several months ago, I read a note or memo from your
    organization that said there were problems with DECwindows V3/Motif and
    that it was one of the action items to be worked off for subsequent
    versions of DECmcc. I wish I had the memo to show you, but I don't.

    I did send a mail message to you many months ago indicating that I had
    seen no problems with mwm and wondered why you were devoting resources
    to resolving DECwindows V3/Motif problems. I didn't get a reply.

    Now that we are on the verge of installing DECwindows V3/Motif (not
    just the add-on mwm), I asked the question again in the notes file.

    Terms like "horror story" generate panic. My apologies. Please
    substitute "mild concern".

    Though I haven't published them all in the notes file, I have many good
    things to say about DECmcc. If I didn't, I wouldn't be using it.

    I invite anyone, novice or otherwise, who is interested in the
    "successes" of DECmcc to give me a call at (303)-649-3240. I am using
    it to manage a large, multi-vendor, multi-protocol network for my
    customer.
