521.0. "Iconic Map with a monochrome display" by SMAUG::BELANGER (Quality is not a mistake!) Wed Dec 05 1990 18:44

	I have a VAXstation 3100-38 with 24M of memory and a monochrome (1
	plane) display. My default setup is black background with white
	text. Whwn I start DECmcc, with the ICONIC MAP, I am unable to see
	anything (ICONS, LINES, etc). I just get a blank window.

	FOLLOW-UP:

	I talked with Fred Messinger. When dealing with a monochrome work-
	station, the ICONIC MAP PM was setting everything to black. This
	works OK for white backgrounds with black text. Fred indicated that
	this will be fixed.

521.1Iconic Map Objects on a monochrome displaySMAUG::BELANGERQuality is not a mistake!Wed Dec 05 1990 18:5011
	When using the ICONIC MAP with a monochrome monitor (taking into
	consideration note 521.0), background maps can be displayed and
	are filled with black. Icons on this background can also be dis-
	played, but the lines connecting these objects cannot be seen. The
	lines are rendered in black and as such, blend in with the background.

	I'm not sure how this can be fixed. It is a real nuisance but does
	function.

521.2Exiting DECmcc from the Iconic MapSMAUG::BELANGERQuality is not a mistake!Wed Dec 05 1990 18:529
	When I exit the iconic map I get the error:

 X Toolkit Warning: XtRemoveGrab asked to remove a widget not on the grab list

	I'm not sure where this is coming from but seems to be related to
	the "exit confirmation" window.

    Is this the EFT1.1 kit (just released) that is being talked about
    here?

    The background map that .1 mentions, I presume is one of the maps
    that come with the kit. Does anyone know what format these map files
    are? Further to that, would it be possible to create your own map,
    say one that is merely an outline, as opposed to be shaded in?

    One other question I was going to ask, was if and how the ICON MAP
    PM will present Notifications? Ordinarily you are able to setup various
    colors to indicate various alarm levels. Is it a case of, if you
    want on-screen alarm notification then you must have a color monitor?

    >>> That's the way it is with the current kit. But we are

    BTW...

    to add to Freds, you will find the inforamtion on customizing you
    notification colors, and setting up rules in the Director Use manual.
    You can copy the manual from WORDY (see note 3.36).

    That assumes you have a color system (I do not).
