1.55 | Notesfiles on Digital homepage?? | PCBUOA::PLATT | | Tue Mar 04 1997 17:48 | 13 |
| Quick question that goes along with the fast coming cut-off of VAXes.
We, here in Acton, Mass. anyway, are moving quickly to Microsoft
Exchange mail. When that happens within the next couple of months, the
cluster on which I connect to this (and other) notesfiles will go away.
My question is whether or not notesfiles are now up on Digital's home
page on the web, and can be accessed (and printed hard copy when
necessary)? If they are not up on the web yet, will they be, or will
we lose access to this forum? If they are on the web, how do you
connect to them?

1.56 | Try NetNotes | RUMOR::16.123.56.220::JRogers | | Tue Mar 04 1997 21:54 | 7 |
| I have been using NetNotes for about a month now. I downloaded it off
a server mentioned in the Exchange area (I think). It is very adequate
for reading and writing notes for the casual user. See if someone in
your area is using this product. There are a couple of tricks that
need some attention when setting up, but it works pretty well.

| You can also use the Web-Notes gateway. Can't remember where it is but you
should be able to find it using the Intranet AltaVista search engine.
Search for "+notes" and "+gateway".

Try "http://www-notes.lkg.dec.com/krakar/f1/" for the F1 conference.
for other conferences replace 'kraker' & 'f1' with the appropriate node
and filename....
happy noting,

http://www-esn.lkg.dec.com/decnotes/ is the Easynet Conferences
home page, and lists all notes conferences accessible via a
web browser (simliar to easynotes.lis).

1.61 | Web notes is NOT an adequate solution... | COMICS::TRAVELL | John T, UK VMS System Support | Thu Mar 06 1997 15:23 | 15 |
| There is a `problem' (maybe a feature!) with Web-notes...
It does not know about replies to old topics... It seems to assume that
all new data is in the last few topics.
example: the SF conference on NOTED::...
The most recent new topic is 20th June 1996. This is the latest that
Web-notes sees. There have been 24 replies in 12 topics since then that
I find hard to impossible to find with Web-notes, but are readily located
with both the classic notes interface and the windows interface.
I have mailed Matt Thomas, in the hope that he knows who wrote Web-notes,
but any `fix' for this is a long way off...

1.63 | need a little more help, please | PCBUOA::PLATT | | Wed Mar 12 1997 17:48 | 6 |
| Thanks again for all the inputs. Found everything I needed on the
DEC homepage, however, when I go to click on reading a specific a note,
it just disappers. Where does it go? Why does it do that? Can it
really be read?
Boy, do I feel stupid,

You need to scroll down the screen to read it at the bottom of the
page.
