458.0. "Can't believe Jones to represent country!!!!!!" by FORTY2::SHARPE () Fri Dec 02 1994 13:45

I just cannot believe that Vinny Jones has been named in
the Welsh squad??? I know they are desperate to make use
of whatever player they can get BUT picking Vinny Jones
is going too far!!!!

I don't dispute the fact that he has got some skill BUT
he is a violent thug and proved many a times in the past
that he should be behind bars and not on a football pitch.

(egs) Tackle which just about ended Gary Stevens career at
Spurs, which was totally unnecessary and damn right
Dangerous, as it proved for GS.

The video he released showing loads of violent, dangerous
      tackles.

Pre season friendly on the Isle of Wight against some non-league
side. Told one of the opposition "I'm going to f***** sort you
out just like I did your brother (who played in Div1)". Sure
enough, he broke his leg!!! This was a friendly!!

On Match of the Day the other Saturday he made three VERY
over the top challenges and then complained after being sent
      off??

The bloke is an animal!!!

ALL comments both in favour and against what I've said are welcome!

I think that's what the Welsh FA want. The popularity of the game is dwindling
in Wales, and they need something that'll grab media attention and bring the
game back into the public spotlight. Vinny Jones is a bit extreme, I know, but
no doubt, there'll be a hell of a lot more people at the next home game if he
plays.

The only reason that the popularity in Wales is dwindling is becuase of
the pathetic treatment of Yorath - getting a moron like Jones in will
do nothing for their international standing. Getting Yorath back might.

Pathetic. It was bad enough what they did to Yorath but this is
ridiculous. Some thug comes along and they snap him up like he's a
superstar. I know we're short of decent players but we really don't
need the likes of him in any circumstances.....and I don't really think
the Welsh crowds are going to accept him as one of the boyos - the
hooligan elements perhaps - maybe they're all that's left? No, I find
this a very difficult decision to take - make me almost wish I were
    English!

Well lets face it... the Welsh FA don't know what the hell they are
doing.... calling up Jones is just another mistake to add the ever
increasing list of bad decisions... We should have a bet on how long
he'll last on the pitch before he gets his first international yellow & red
    cards....

They shouldn't have let Yorath go... its as simple as that... well as
    the old saying goes...

"You don't know how good something was until its gone.. " :->

I'd bet that he would be carded within the first 5 minutes of his
    debut....

sad day for Welsh football....12 months ago they were 10 mins from the
WC finals and now they have to pick this moron. Don't they have an
    Under-21 squad to pick from????

I'm in favour. I think that if a few more big name players had his passion and
commitment, England would have qualified for the World Cup. He's no worse than
Wouters.

I'd rather have one Vinnie than a thousand farty le Tissier types.

Apparently, Our Vinny brought a massive morale boost to the Welsh squad sesh on
the weekend, even reducing Sparky, Gary Speed and Dean Saunders to tears (of
laughter - no bag-snatching antics here). Even if he's not picked (although
surely he will be) on Wednesday, his influence is likely to improve the Welsh
performance anyway.

    Well???? How did Vinny play?...

I only saw the first Bulgar goal. What a cracking volley!...

Didn't see the game but the press report I read indicates that the best
part of Wales' game last hight was Vinny's long throw. Says it all
    really.
458.12newspaper reports...XSTACY::JDUGGANThu Dec 15 1994 17:415
Vinnie caused a bit of controversy by not swapping jerseys after
the game ended... according to reports in the paper he made a
few wild over-the-top challenges. On the plus side he had one
of the better chances when his header got cleared off the line.
